I am 58 years old and at the point where the Flomax is not working like it was before, even though i've doubled the dose to 4mg every 12 hours. Most of the time, it's stop and go, and i can feel the back up because of the blockage. So now the doc says that my condition is going to cause damage to the bladder if i don't take care of it. After cystoscopy he says that the blockage is coming down both sides of the urethra, and that Eurolift wont work for my type of blockage, and recommends the TURP for me. This means loss of ejeculation after the procedure, and i'm wondering how this situation feels for those who have tried to have a sex life post TURP.
I am 21 months post-TURP. Sex life is unchanged. Ejaculation feels slightly different, perhaps a tad less intense. I'm surprised you haven't experienced retro with Flomax. That's a common side-effect for most, as it was for me when I was on it. Anyway, for me the ability to pee without restriction and fully empty my bladder was worth the reduction in orgasm intensity. And my wife does not miss the post-coital mess!
really think depends on the person. Some guys are totally happy not ejaculating while others say orgasms with ejaculation is a let down. Woman seem to feel the same. Some women are happy these not ejaculation. When I was looking at procedures I told my wife about retro ejaculation and she said for her it would be different and not in a good way. I'm lucky and I've responded well to finasteride and have a good stream of 20 ML/sec.

Yes, i did experience this retro, which for me was like no orgasm. The urologist said that the meds reduced the contractions, hence the feeling of no orgasm at all. When i started taking these in 2016, i could just skip a few days, and then get a normal ejaculation. But lately my blockage is such that i cannot skip more than one day.
Did you put off having the TURP done for as long as possible? How do you know the point at which you are doing harm to your bladder by waiting further to get the the obstruction cleared?
I had TURP 12 years ago. It was a success in that I am able to pee normal. Everything checks good on checkups. on the downsize I have had no sex at all No erections and no ejaculation. Dr never told me about thi side effect and no mention of other treatments. Very frustrating!!

I decided to go with the TURP when I was no longer satisfied with the performance of the alpha-blocker. Traveling was very inconvenient and I was always concerned that the urge would strike when no restroom was available. Plus my median lobe acted like a ball valve and if I waited too long to void, my stream was literally a trickle and it would take several minutes to only partially empty my bladder. Had I known how easy the recovery would be, I would have done it sooner. My uro reported "minor trabeculation" of the bladder wall after my cystoscopy.
I had turp 18 months ago. At this time I am thinking ejaculation feels better than it has ever been post surgery. However it is not as intense as it was (say) three years ago. The reason I compare it to then is that leading up to Turp I was ejaculating less and less anyway because of my enlarged prostate .
It does not feel as fulfilling but would I have Turp again. ? Yes I would .To be able to pee without worrying every time is he biggest plus and I can still have sex albeit feels different at Orgasm .
I put it into the context of my whole life experience at this moment and I feel great about life . I am willing to lose something , to gain my real life back ....I was self catheterising for nigh on five months before and after surgery . I now pee normally though and it gets better every day. I am sure about that , even at my age , my bladder is repairing itself having being stretched & neglected and through carrying around between a litre and a litre and half of pee continually for months maybe even years who knows . This thing creeps up on us until often it becomes critical and dangerous ..
I recommend Turp .I take as little medication as possible having tried drugs to relax my prostate and the usual (to me ) alternatives o having to do something definite that improves things long term...ie Turp. The only drugs I take are for blood pressure . I know I am lucky compared to some , but the drugs I tried before Turp had quite profound effects on my mental well being . I now feel "normal" once more.

I am 58 and am 3 months post-TURP and going in for another one in a few weeks. I haven't had any issues with retrograde ejaculation or erection but I do notice a couple of differences from the pre-TURP days: 1) It's hard to describe but the most sensitive part of my penis just below the head is really, really sensitive in a good/odd way. I've never had that much sensation before. Note that it could be due to CIC or just from the penis being roughed up so much lately with catheters and such. 2) Using catheters makes my urethra sensitive so after cath'ing I don't feel very much in the mood until the sensation passes.
Hi All, I'm on tamsulosin and finesteride for enlarged prostate. I need to check with my GP/Urologist at some point but can't you take viagra for erections? I have had a few issues with retrograde ejaculation but hope it's like public speaking in that you get used to it after a while! Not sure i can get used to catheters though due to cramps and spasms.
I had a TURP in February 2020. Orgasm is just not as good with retro. Doesn't feel like anything really and makes sex not worth the bother if I'm honest. No shock as I was expecting it wouldn't be great but still disappointing. If you can keep your ejeculation then do so. I tried with Urolift but the procedure failed after a couple of months; it also left me in pain. I understand there is a chance of maintaining ejeculation with the Rezum procedure but it was not available to me.
Did your urologist explain why the Eurolift failed in such a short amount of time?
wow! I had a TURP in '66 as I foumd out I had a bladder neck flap like obstruction, and it was congenital in nature, could'nt pee finally and sex was very painful. anyway Doc. told me I would have problems always because I waited to long to have problem dealt with ! my mistake! anyway I had chronic prostratitis always and in 2015 I had to have another TURP. My first TURP was when I was around 26 and my second TURP was when I was 78. sex has been a problem all through these yrs too.now my bowels are problem too, as result. lesson: dont let these problems go !!!!!!! good luck !!!
Can I ask why you say you are going in for another one..Do you mean another Turp.? Was the first not successful ?
Yes, I went in for TURP #3 on Monday and just starting peeing freely today after removing my Foley catheter. Doctor did a very minimal TURP on the median lobe first which didn't work at all. Then 2 weeks later he removed more but apparently somehow two surfaces that were raw ended up bonding and growing together over the last few months. I could still get a catheter in there but couldn't drain my bladder naturally. So this week was removal of a lot of tissue to open up the channel for good. And it seems to have worked but I will be sore for a while.

I have been doing self catheterization for three years. When I had blood test done by my primary care physician mentioned that my kidneys were functioning well. I think he mentioned it because he knows I am using catheters. I think there are certain things in the blood tests that show how the kidneys are performing, one of them is creatine. You can ask your physician about it the next time you have blood tests. It might be good to record a baseline while your kidneys are still functioning well.
I don't notice any difference, I still have full ejaculation just a bit slower on the exit. Earlier ejaculations were dry but it was no big deal, I had to look to check. Just my experience everyone is different, my dad had the op and never quite got used to the dry. I am 3 yrs post turp.
Your question is very interesting... Me it's different because I did not have TURP but a radical prostatectomy, which resulted in the end of my semen production and the inability to ejaculate. For me it is not a retrograde ejaculation but a dry one because all the glands and the "pipes" are removed.
First of all it's surprising because the rhythmic muscle spasms are present during orgasm as if my penis wanted to expel the white stuff but nothing comes out. The fact that there is not this thick liquid going through the urethra takes away a lot of the sensation but the pleasure is there anyway.
On the visual aspect, it is during masturbations that the difference is greater because it is there that I admired and appreciated the most my semen spurting out in many jets at the end and today something is really missing. Looks like I have less of that sense of manhood because of it. When it comes to sex, it doesn't change much for me not to have ejaculation anymore, it's even more practical sometimes.

Why is this doctor telling you that the Urolift will not work. Is it because of the median lobe. They can do a Midlift that was developed by the Urolift company to take care of the Median lobe.
It will work it will open you up and there are no side effects. Do not get talked into something you are going to regret
I was on a site that talked about men that had the Turp. All the men that were on the site wanted to tie there doctor to a table and do the same thing to them. Some men will have there orgasm to a 1/3 of what it was before the surgery. They regret doing it.
This is your body tell them that the Urolift and Medlift is what you want to try.
