My exams are starting from Monday and it has been 2years since I went to school (I am agoraphobic and a homeschooler) so I am feeling a little nervous about it. How do I control a panic attack in an examination hall full of pupil and invigilators? I don't want to carry a water bottle this time because No one else does so it feels awkward and nobody here knows that I'm a patient of depression
What is the best method to stop a panic attack in public, is there anything which has worked for you
Maybe practices deep slow steady breathing. Perhaps visualise yourself getting there calmly, then visualise yourself effortlessly coping with exam hall, even enjoying it. Remember everyone else is much more focused on themselves than they are on you. Good luck.
Hello
Is there anyway that you can be moved into a seperate room? I know at my school where I took my exams they allowed people to do that for medical reasons? Maybe you should try and contact the examinations officer and see if they can arrange for you to sit your exams in a private room, if they're considerate enough they should let you!
If they can't then what I usually do in situations like that is first calm down my breathing, because I find if I dont do that I am more likely to go into a full panic attack, so try and take deep breaths and slow down your breathing, it will make you feel more in control! Then I usually try and focus on one thing, and try to distract my mind away from panicking, so in the exam try and really focus on the questions and try to ignore everything around you! If you can't, focus on something in the room like someone's outfit or something! If you do feel like you're going to panic you can leave the room at any time, just put your hand up and explain to an invigilator and they should let you leave! If they don't, you have every right to just get up an leave! Good luck
Find somwhere to sit for a while and get a cold drink, best is water
