I had my pre op assessment yesterday but forgot to ask. I go in Sunday night for a laparotomy to remove a 35cm simple cyst (probably the ovary too, maybe more). I'll be in for 5 nights.
so what should I take? They said no valuables so I'll leave my iPad at home and my Mum will bring my phone in when she visits. Will have a few pounds on me but not a lot.
I'm thinking nightie, slippers, dressing gown, under wear, toiletries and a couple of books. Also some wet wipes. A cushion too for holding against the wound when I move or cough.
Lip balm, after surgery I always find my lips are dry and sore, due to oxygen mask. Also if u have waterproof flip flops to wear in the shower :-/ good luck with your op, I have mine on the 23rd x
No problem. I'm kinda ok about it as I know what it's like as I've undergone this proceedure before. But I suppose the usual nerves will kick in the night before lol x
Hi carla it was ok i had a bleed the same night so had to go back to theater for 5 hrs now there saying it was benighn but boarderline so am waiting to see what next steps are just recieved an appointment for endoscopy ? Recovering well on the whole xx
Definitely take your dressing gown, I wasn't going to take mine but took it as a blanket in the end but you will be grateful for it as you will need to wear it in the pre theatre bit and it's nice to have for pottering about the hospital as they make you go for walks.
Also some reading material. I don't know why they said no valuables as I had my ipad to keep me busy and I would have been lost without its! You should have a lockable drawer for it but I left it under my pillow at night. Maybe a few snacks too.
try not to worry too much, I am honestly the worst worrier and can say hand on heart I was so petrified I could not talk. But it was really not that bad at all. Try not to think about it and it will be over before you know it. I said on the day, "I just can't wait till 5pm so it is all over and done with" and now here I am 8 weeks post op!
I invested in a new, long dressing gown. I hate my legs so made sure I got one that covers them! My husband bought me some books to read good idea about the snacks! Thank you.
I was told i would get a little draw and a small wardrobe but neither were lockable. There's a nurses safe but it's only for medicine. I'm going to leave my wedding, engagement and eternity rings with my Mum as I was told no jewlery during the surgery, then she can bring them in first visit and I can put them on and keep them on! Sounds little a small detail but seen as my husband can't visit (the navy won't let him home) it's important to me.
so far the nerves still haven't kicked in. They will soon I expect.
Try not to be, they obviously doing the test to be doubly sure . What do they do dor borderline? I thought they just observed . Did they take any of your omentum? How you getting about . I'm almost four weeks And still swollen and inside feels bit weird which understandable xx
My surgeon told me that they take the omen tall sample as that was the first place it would affect outside of the ovary. I think it is routine as they did not suspect anything sinister at all with mine but still took it. Xx
