What to do when writhing in pain

So I got stuck stitting in a chair too long at the doctor's office today. So now my back is hurting.  The most comfortable position for me is to lay on my back with a large stack of pillows under my knees, so you are in the position of sitting on a chair, but you're on your back.  I've just taken my 6th pain killer for the day, and I'm only allowed 5.  I'm writing, with my hips moving up and down, and doing that stupid hum that I do when I'm in pain.  I've tried ice, it didn't help tonight.  I'm totally afriad to try heat, do you think I should give it a try?

Linda

Did you ever tried to rub the area with those creams for pain? There is always one that works better for us than others.

i use It daily.

Take care.

Sorry you are having so much pain with your spinal problem. My particular problem was only helped when my Doctor referred me to a specialist clinic at the hospital for assessment and thence to spinal injection via an M.R.I scan which identifies the area of problem which later resulted in in patient surgery.

In my particular case the surgery has failed in its objective and I am again being referred back to the hospital for assessment after I was discharged.

The path I was given, although unsucessful means that it pays a patient to continually press the Doctor at Primary Care to seek specialist help.

So keep pushing, continual pain killers are only short term relief, keep away from Gabapentin if you can, as this is a mind numbing drug which I personally want to wean myself off.

Dont despair, keep plugging away with the medical specialists until you get some relief and stay positive.

I feel for you. Try ice for 20 minutes, heat for 20 minutes off and on. Please try this and don't take more pain pills than your doc prescribed. Also try laying on your back and grab one leg bent with both hands pulling your leg towards you and hold. Do the same with the other one and alternate. Also if you can lay on your back at the beginning of a hallway with one leg straight out on the floor and the other straight up on the wall this might help. Bio freeze is also a very good product if you can find it. Good luck and hope you feel better.

Hi Guy,

This is what i remembered to do.  I realized my back was in a big spasm, so I did med heat, then ice, just as you said.  I got some relief that way.  It's my SI Joint, it gets out of joint by a micrometer, and pinches like the dickens.  But the ice then heat seemed to help.  I also did stretching exercises similar to what you suggested.  Thanks so much.

Linda

I got some relief last night by alternating ice and heat on my back.  Thanks.  Sometimes it helps just to get the feelings out there.  I've been so depressed about all of this.

I have lidocaine creme 3% which helps sometimes with my leg pain, but not with my back pain.  I got some relief last night by alternating ice and heat.  I really appreciate getting a response from you guys.  It helps to talk about it sometimes.

Linda

Glad to hear your feeling better. Take care of yourself and avoid surgery at all cost.

Too late,

I've had 5 back surgeries! I'm considering the Nevro Sensa HF10.

Thank you for taking the time to write. I am feeling better today.  Somedays you just gotta let it out to someone who understands.

Linda

I understand as I've had 7 myself  and have had the Nevro implanted 23 days ago. It is helping with my back pain, but I think my body is rejecting it. I'm currently on steroids due to an all over body rash/hives,itching and heartburn since 1 week after surgery..My next step is an allergist for metal testing.

I'm seeling a pain specialist on Thursday.  I got two sympathetic nerve blocks done, but the accidentally did a different level each day and now th ey want to burn the nerves, and I want to talk to the doctor before they do that.  I've never had an RFA (radio frequency ablation) done before, and I awant to make sure they get the right level.  I totally agree, you have to stay after the doctors.

Good luck to you and thanks so much for caring.

Linda

Good luck with the Nevro.  I would like to stay in touch and see how that turns out for you.  Take care of yourself!L

Linda

Thanks you too..

Thank you , Linda, for sure I will try both - ice and heat and your lidocaine 3%.

Sometimes I do daydream imagining what if someday I wake up in the morning totally healed?

Yes, Linda,  it's great the opportunity to exchange here our experiences.

We are not alone.

Take care and thank you, again.
