Whats the duration of the operation=?

Hello whats the duration of the operation, like since you enter the operation room till you  go out

thanks

My experience was brill . Walked to theatre at 9 . Had general as was told you are up out of bed quicker . Told I would feel drowsy but can't remember feeling it or anything till heard someone saying we are taking you back Mary . Was on ward at 12.45 having toast ant tea at 2 . Apparently in theatre for hour and a half . 4 weeks in now and aching more than I was hope that's the muscle and fact that I am getting fed up . Good luck

hi mary if i can ask how old are you, i am only 37

Roughly one hour and a half some quicker take an I pos with you if you aren't being knocked out and you can listen to your music and earphones

thats fromt he moment they get you inside the operation room right,

I pod that should av said

Yu are in ore op room about twenty mins having injection in back if that's what u are having then we u get in Yu have to get on diff bed they put u on side in rite position put a sheet so Yu can't see, you will hear but u don't see but noises are weird so take your iPod or something so u relax more cause it was like me listening to my joiner son working.

I was on the table 1hr 10 mins but it probably depends on the way the op is done, anterior, posterior etc.

An hour and a half for me and about half an hour in recovery xx

Just gone 60 . My friends all thought I was young to have it done so did I till I joined this forum . Can't believe how many young people need it ! When I got to the anti room nurse said get onto bed this is the bed you will be operated on so they didn't need to move me once I was asleep . If I need it again I would go for general . My hospital has ERAS programme  early recovery after surgery . Sachets to dilute and drink before op and anti sickness pill just before op . Brill no after effects .

It was 45 minutes for me. I had the mini invasive. Incision was only 3" long and I had the spinal injection with sedation. Very quick and you wake up right away with the spinal/sedation. However, every one is different depending on the condition of the hip to be replaced. I live in the U.S. so I think things may be done a little differently.

Good luck!

thats a good idea... i did ask if i could take an i pod with me, and was told that i could, so i may just do that

Ye it's well worth it cause the noises are very strange. I even watched the op wen I got home just to see wat they had done

About an hour and half, then into recovery room and after half an hour, had tea and toast and then back on the ward.  Feeling was back in my legs by then but no pain at all, just feeling a bit tenderness, but not in any pain, wonderful.  Good luck to you.

There was a piece on the national news (US) this week, they said the number of people needing hip replacement between the ages of 55 and 70 has tripled in the past two years and those under 55 has doubled!  But they did not give a reason why....

Wonder if it's because of all the running  jogging. Gym etc people have been doing recently ? Certainly not in my case

nor me!  I am active but mostly walking... stationary bike, nothing high impact .... allora

Wow, reading everyone's replies are really blowing my mind.....  My surgery took 4 1/2 hours.  THR from the rear.  Incision about 12" long.  I had more of a complicated surgery .  I have ceramic and titanium.  I did not have spinal i was intibated with tube.  Was in recovery room for 3 hours......  My surgeon did say that my surgery was a challenge for him, i'm guessing he wasn't just saying that now considering everything i'm reading here.  But, post op 6 weeks and i'm feeling better and better every day.  Can I ask what is a "Theatre" terms are so different here in the USA....

Theatre is the operating room

ginny  I think "theatre" is operating room.... that is my guess based on the comments
