Mine best aids have to be my grabber and my crutch pod.
The pod is a plastice recepticle that fits on to your crutch or stick with little prongs on that fit into the holes in your stick to stop it running down the stick.
It is ideal for carrying bottled drinks, telephone, wrapped sandwiches, bits of rubbish for the bin empty cups and of course a few treats.
It has been invaluable and well worth the few pounds it cost. I found it on the internet.
Nurses and PT at the hospital had not seen one before but would be recommending them to other patients.
Would be interested to see if anyone else has an aid that has been worth the caost.
I have loved my sox-on tool for getting my socks on easily.
Also a lightweight cross body bag when I was on two crutches for carrying everything.
Love my v-pillow for propping up in bed. In fact lots of pillows have been my friend for back sleeping!!
Thermos mug with a handle so I could carry my own coffee and tea when on two crutches.
Gel cushion wrapped in a bin-liner on the passenger seat if my car to get in and out and sit comfortably in the car.
Soft and long gel ice packs which mould to your body (I found on Amazon) great for early days of icing.
Pill box so I could keep track of my daily meds as it gets very confusing in the early stages when you are taking them around the clock and so important to keep on top of the pain.
Window insulating tape that I wrapped around crutch handles to cushion them as my palms and heel if my hand got very sore before I did this. Electrical tape held it firm.
Wow your well ahead. Love the idea of the insulating tape. I am actually getting relly hard skin on my hands due to having to use crutches for the past year. Now managing better so hope it will get better x
I'm assuming that gel cushion (i had one to) is because it's softer than most and providers support properly. And the bin bag so you can slide on it to make it easier to get in?
The gel cushion is just very comfortable to sit on post op and raises the seat of the car a little higher which is easier to get in onto the seat. The plastic bag around it means it slides around with your bottom as you get your legs in. It works really well. I used it as a passenger and am now driving using it. I got the gel cushion on Amazon.
Thanks Samantha, it finally dawned on me that bin bag is probably garbage bag. Some of our different terminologies are pretty funny, but I'm catching on.
Luckily my sis lived in England for a number of years and one of our nephews was born there so I do get some of them LOL
After my FHR, I was sent home with a walker. It had wheels on the front, and I had put a tennis ball (cut to put over things) over each rubber foot on the back of the walker. This allowed me to glide the walker accross my hardwood & tile floors. I also bough a basket for it which sat up over the top bar in the front. I was able to put items inside the basket, which allowed me to use both hands as needed. Probably a waste of money because I only used the walker for just over a week. But is was the best while I needed it I now have it stored away until either my husband or I might need it for the future.
That is too funny!! I was born in England where I lived most of my life. The last 20 years I've lived in the US. People think I'm crazy when I say I'm bilingual. (I can speak English and American English). It's nice and many time helpful to understand both languages
My husband has been exceptionally helpful, for a change. My granddaughters, 10 and 11 years age have given me so much help, without me even asking for it. I am trully blessed.
yep, grabbers - I also had one in the car to take with me in supermarket to get things from top and/or botom shelf and handy to pick up dropped car keys >>
raised toilet seat made my life a lot easier and also sock aid -
I was advised to get a rollator (4wheeled walker) since I live alone and this would lessen the probabilty of falling ... It has a bench where I can put things on it and perfect height to sit on ...
I purchased this rollator, light weight and foldable so I could put in my car when going out -
Definitely needed the raised toilet seat as I am tall. Nearly got stuck on a toilet before op as couldn't get a hold on anything to help lift me up :-)
My husband, my grabber, and some children's plastic steps, so that I could climb into the bath and have a shower! I now realise how useful a walk in shower would be.....
