Greetings across the pond
Swimming, not if you had an anterior. Can walk in the water.
However I have seen people say no frog legging in the pool when swimming but I don't know for how long after surgery.
It's the kicking with the legs might cause dislocation.
I liked walking in the pool because it's non impact exercise on the joints.
I would think you would need to be able to dry feet and legs before going swimming. Or bring someone with you.
How do you know if you have anterior. My scar is down behind my hip bone towards back.
Hi Maggie,
Greetings, sounds like your 5.5 weeks well into revovery.
I was told not to swim for the first 4-6 weeks, and then gently ease in. this includes breast stoke. Others have been told different tho!
Basically I suggest go get wet, swim a little but carefully. My scar was unaffected by the chlorine personally....
talking water, my physio says at 6 weeks its fine to have a bath, which ! did at 6 weeks and 5 minutes!
Good luck

hi mic
if weather stays hot will give it a go over weekend and just tread water to start with. thanks. maggie
yes will do. just thought i cant get the norah battys off until monday (my 6 weeks) might be better to wait until then too.
will just tread water thanks maggie
You had posterior op. As long as your scar has sealed then you can go in the pool but not do breaststroke leg movements. I asked the same question today and was told this. I am 5 weeks post op; same procedure you had.
hi sue
thats great thanks maggie
Basically, scar in the back is posterior. Which sounds perfectly logical π
Anterior is whennit's done from the front, where they go inbetween muscles as oppised as through one in the pisterior approach. I have a posterior (backside) scar as well.
I am 3weeks today. Saw consultant yesterday he said as long as I feel safe to get in ok it woul be fine. He did say DONT do breaststroke legs. I have been told walking in water is good. My Physio said I can go to hydro next week so will be able to tell you more then.
my only concern would be slippery floor!!πππππ
all the best. Carol π Xx
Went to a pool at 6 weeks still using one crutch so needed help to put crutch to side and get for me afterwards as was nervous about taking steps unaided because it was skippy. Would advise using the wider steps to go in/out as ladder type ones make knees bend too high. I could walk really well in the water no limp and just did exercise by physio as not a strong swimmer. Enjoy
Seem to be wishing my life away but no Nora battys and lying on side 4 weeks away Blissss.
Think I had the PISTERIOR one ifvthe no of loo tripsvis anything to go by!!
P's keep hitting v for space.
Hi Carol, All,
Lovely weather for swimming, and outside swimming is best!
Only wish the 'advice' was clearer to us.
Like, I was told swimming is good for healing, and breaststroke was FINE as a stroke. As it's my normal swimming stroke, I went ahead from week 6 - and that co-incided with warmer weather too! Enjoyed!!
Good luck, but yes, whatever you do, if you like it, then swim!

Good morning all ... wow ... so many things I was not aware of .. especially the going in and out of the pool - thank you for asking this question and responses ..
weather here in Holland is crappy right now but warm weather returning soon ...

Just to add my 2 cents worth........also make sure your scar is fully healed. This was my surgeons main concern. Last thing you want is an infection especially if swimming in a public pool.
