I WAS WITH A MAN ON FRIDAY NIGHT, ON MONDAY I BEGAN TO GET WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A PIMPLE ON MY LIP, BY TUESDAY I THOUGHT IT WAS MORE THEN JUST A PIMPLE, I HAD BLOOD WORK DONE TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND IT CAME BACK HERPES SIMPLEX 1 GREATER THEN 5.0 AND 2 WAS 1.15. MY QUESTION IS, IS IT POSSIBLE I WAS INFECTED THAT WEEKEND OR HAD I ALREADY HAD THE VIRUS AND DIDNT KNOW?
So anything over 1.10 on a blood test, means your positive. HSV 1 has a pretty high value, so you've had that for quite some time now. I'm shocked that your blood test would show antibodies so quickly, but your value is rather low, so it's an indicator of a new infection. I took a blood test 5 days after infection and came back negative, buy my swab came back positive. It did come back positive 3 months later however.
Did your outbreak get any worse than that? Are you in lots of pain, do you have flu like symptoms, any other sores but that one?
We're your tests for both IgG or IgM? Because if one is positive for HSV 1 and a IgM test was used, it can give a false positive on hsv 2. So you may have a false positive.
i have no other symptoms, no other sores nothing... i have had maybe three cold sores my whole life and im in my 40's. the labs were just the igg--- so should i do the igm?? is it really possible its a false positive??
No, IgM is useless, that is why I asked and jt can cause false positives, but IgM is pretty accurate.
What made you think it was more than a pimple?
I recommend getting tested for HSV 2 only IgG, 3 months from sexual contact and see if your values go up.
That's a pretty low value, which can be indicative of a new infection, but if you got it from him, you produced antibodies rather quickly.. Not sure if it's possible to produce antibodies that quickly. How long prior to that sexual partner, did you have a different sexual partner?
it hurt more then just a pimple--and i thought how odd since i was just with him, i work for a dr and i had her look at it and she said it looked like it was going to be a sore, i started medication the same day, as far as another partner---- i was with the same man 14 months before and no one in between-- i was married for 20 years and then met this man about 2 years or so after the divorce and i have only been with him off and on

Well it is very strange you had any antibodies to hsv2 so soon after infection, but anything is possible. Have you asked him to be tested? I think yoirtbest betnis, to be tested in at least another two months or three and see if your values change. If you did get it from anyone based on your low values, you got it from him.
It is possible she did, but her values are so low, it indicates different. If you notice how high her HSV 1 is, that's because that's been an established infection.. She is only 5 points over the infection number for HSV 2 to test positive, so this would indicate a new infection.
