I am 5 weeks post surgery. I just lost the surgery tapes. Was wondering what was the usual time frame that they came off and how are you taking care of your incision now that tapes bare gone?
Hi Catania, I had metal staples and glue which were removed at two weeks. Scar healed extremely well and needing no special care. Keep smiling!
Did you have disolvable stitches/glue/staples
Can't help with tapes
i,had stitches and showerproof dressing. Took mine off about two weeks. Just rub bio oil onto scar
Good luck

Bet that feels good, just had my thirty clips out at 9 days, just wound spray and scar healing well, hopefully you'll be more comfy now. I've had no special instructions, just shower as normal.
I had staples removed at 12 days. No tapes. Scar was well healed when staples removed and I needed no further dressings. Started using bio oil on scat at 4 weeks
Hi
I had steri-strips on my incision. I was instructed to take off the waterproof dressing at 3 weeks .... and the strips came off at the same time. All was OK underneath .....
Catania, I am a little confused as to what you are describing. I had unstitched incision which had 20 or so 'steri -strips along its length. Over this I had a waterproof dressing. At two weeks I went to the dressings clinic to have everything removed and it has been open to the air ever since.
After that I massaged in bio oil and coconut oil and was instructed to do a deep massage at least once a day to flatten the scar.
If you look at the discussion "War wounds" you can see a lot of different scars.
If you were just supposed to let your 'tapes' come off on their own then I would just suggest using a moisturiser of choice.
They don't like it to get wet I could not shower for 6weeks when it gets wet they don't want no water to get in to the wond couse the water can couse it to get infected
...although I was OK to shower with the wound exposed at 3 weeks..... no problems.
Different surgeons, different advice
My bandage stayed on for about a week. The steri strips came off with the help of my sister in law around week 5. We numbed the area with ice first so I wouldn't fee the pulling of the strips.
It sounds from your post that you still have the original dressing still on, but I sure that is just not the case, it is usually 2 weeks to hael then the dressing comes off, and the stitches are removed, but being glued there are no stitches, I have a big Ass, so I was glued, must have been a big tube of glue???
Hope all goes well I just did my first walk to sainsburies about a mile all together and it was fine, I find that the weighted backpack helps in the healing process, not too heavy but it is spread over two shoulders of course.
I will stay home tommorrow and go out on Wednsday for a Haircut, and pick up an nice B+W large print for our Kitchen.
KInd regards to you and keep well Ian.
Take it easy Ian! - that still sounds a long way and a lot of extra weight to carry on what is only a few days in..... don't overdo it!
Hi there,
I took mine of when the edges curled at about 3 weeks. Now I do massage to loosen the underneath tissues a bit with bio oil. You can use any moisturiser really, bio oil is to reduce scarring.....there are videos on you tube on how to massage your scar.

I had dissolvable stitches. Dressing came off at 2 weeks and then showered from then on
Bio oil is great - just massage in well with small circular pressure and all looking good!
Best of luck!
