When I touch my knee I get pain up my thigh.

I fell and badly bruised my knee a few weeks ago. The bruises have gone now but when I touch my knee I get a shooting pain up my thigh up to my groin.

I've never experienced this before. Could I have damaged a nerve?

I would get it checked out at your GP to be on the safe side.

Thanks for your reply Elizabeth20203. I think I will as it just feels wrong...

Hi Stephanie,

lit very well could be and does sound like a nerve prob. On a very very basic level (excluding the brain and down the spine), the nerves that are in the legs all originate nearer the groin / top of the leg area and fan out / split and thin out the further and further down you go, bit like the way the femoral artery splits into lots of veins and capillaries in the feet. Half my left leg has been amputated but there is a point on my left buttock that feels like I'm clenching a toe if I press it right. You might have trapped a nerve if it twinges with movement.

id go to the docs, but yes, does sound like a nerve. They can be damaged & take time to repair themselves, esp in a highly used part of the body. Good luck

Hi matt66. Thanks for your reply.

I'm going to make an appointment with the doctor tomorrow as the sensation is making me feel nauseous too.

I feel such a fool for falling over but I suppose it could've been worse....!

Lol...happens to the best of us!! That's what started off my leg loss, fell over walking the dog. Fell over, broke it, got infected and had to amputate to kill the infection so I could have a liver transplant (infection had spread & killed my liver too). Hope you stay upright!!

You poor thing.... and here's me thinking dogs are man's best friend and they're good for our health....!

Have you managed to get in to see your doctor? I hope you pain is better.

The pain is a bit better today so I'm holding on. I'm not one to go to the doctor unless I really have to......

Please go to the doctors, your not wasting their time and it will put your mind at rest.
