I woke up one morning and literally just couldn't walk. I was in no pain, but had to crawl everywhere. At first, my Mum didn't believe me, but later I went to hospital and stayed there a few days, then came home and continued to crawl for about a week, then all I can remember is that I could walk fine again.
What's strange, is that there is absolutely no record of this happening on my records. I've asked my Mum about it, and she remembered it, but couldn't shed light on what happened, though she says it was possibly a hip issue.
I've googled hip problems in young children, and also sudden inability to walk, but I'm not finding exact symptoms where there is no pain whatsoever.
I never had any walking issues since, so it doesn't really matter... But it's been bugging me for years.
Can anyone help?
I had testicular cancer age 25... Probably unrelated entirely but thought I'd throw it in there.
It would be useful to know, just incase my 2 year old daughter has similar walking issues.
That's funny! Similar happened to my son ( he was 5yrs old, and he is 50now) he came back from school and couldn't hold a cup of tea. Took him to Dr who thought he might of fractured a bone in his arm,and sent him for X-ray next morning. By bed time his other arm had no use. Next morning he couldn't stand and had to be carried for X-ray. My husband had to take him for his X-ray as that morning my back went into a spasm!! Any way they X-rayed his arm nothing fractured, I was not happy with my husband bringing him home without asking more about his condition. By night his arms were improved, and next day he had the use back in his legs. We never new what it was. In my sons early teens he had achy knees which stopped him from sleeping. The only thing which helped him was soluble pain killers begging with S??. In his mid teens he started running which he continued until fifteen years ago when he got married and started a family. In that time he did a few marathons. His knees improved and we didn't hear of achy knees again. I've always wondered what that was he had when he was five. I know it's not much help, but hope it helps you knowing that my son didn't have it again!!
Interesting. Thanks for the reply. So he ended up being a good runner then? I wonder if the knees were related to the earlier issue? I suppose that's what you're wondering.
In my teens I wrote this all off, but it's only in recent years I've become intrigued as to what happened, only to find my records from 0 - 18 have miraculously disappeared... Which is a shame as I was pretty low maintenance as a kid apart from this one issue.
I renember not caring that I couldn't walk, as it was just time off school for me... But now I think, hmmm if I woke up tomorrow, and couldn't walk, it would be serious stuff!
Have a nice evening.
