When is enough enough

I've posted about my terrible thigh pains before but in just four days they've gone from excruciating to I can't take anymore. I can't stand up from a sitting position now without screaming out in pain and my other hip is starting to feel sore. If I walk on the very outside of my foot I can manage a few yards without pain but that's turning my foot so I'm literally walking on the side. I can no longer shop without a mobility scooter and the hospital reckons my FIRST consultation with the consultant won't be til June/July!!!!! There are 60 before me. The nurse at docs says I must keep taking the pain meds but they don't do anything. I've managed to get an appt with my own doc tomorrow but I'm scared she Won't be able to do anything to help me get the edge off the pain. It's now everywhere in and around my inner thigh and groin. My life's just crap πŸ‘ŽπŸ‘Ž

Dear Sarah

How absolutely awful for you. I simply have no idea what you must be going through at the moment and such a long time to wait before you can see the consultant.

Surely there has to be something your doctor will be able to do for you. I would really caution against walking in the way you have described as this will impact on your back and will set off other problems. I am sorry but I've lost track of your earlier postings but can you briefly refresh my memory.

My thoughts are with you at this late hour here in the UK.

Richard

Sarah so sorry to hear about all the pain your in!! Have you had thr surgery?? If so when?? Hugs πŸ€—. LD

Oh Sarah I feel your pain, have you been told it's your hips that are playing up? Have you had X-rays? What medication are you on? I'm in the same position as you inregards with the walking and I've had my left hip replaced. I'm due next month to have my right one done but I still won't be able to "walk" as I need a right knee replacement and my left knee is going that way now. Are you taking anti inflammatory's? I can tell you that Rose Hip and Glucosamine Solphate help me eminently and you can get them from your nearest health shop i.e. Holland & Barrett. Maybe go back to your doctors and kick up a stink about your waiting time or maybe if it gets too much, go to your local A&E and tell a little white lie saying you've fallen/legs given way so they the nurses or doctors can do further investigations. I wish you well xx

So sorry sarah22500

im nearly in that same shape, still trying to use a walker but as of today just can't put any weight on my right hip with out passing out from pain.  My surgery day is the 29 th of March.  So with 2 weeks to go and several doctors apps set.  I just don't know how I'm gonna make it.  The pain pills I'm taking along with Advil every 4 to 5 hours is not doing much at all.

Im thinking of going to the emergency room in hopes for something stronger.   You may want to do the same.  That kind of pain is an emergency.  A person can only stand so much.

Hope you get some relief some how. Keep us posted!

Pain meds, I found to be no help. I learnt meditation and relaxation which sounds silly but really helped. You can learn to dissociate from yr body and relax yr muscles. Muscles get so tense when we are in pain and holding ourselves in awkward positions. It does help to some extent. Also walk with crutches. Always. If yr pain is that bad then crutches will help to not exacerbate it. That is what I did. I used a cane always. Now my op is done I don't need it. Hopefully that will be you before too long.

Where do you live?

Hi Sarah if you are in UK andcan afford Β£200 go for a private consultation. At the consultation tell the surgeon you will be NHS patient. This cut my wait by 9 months and was carried out in private hospital.

hi sarah,

That is terrible - can you see  another surgeon - that seems a long time waiting for your first consultation ...

I remember that pain and nothing helped - It is by trial and error and then still ...

I hope your PCP can help you ...

Big wam hug

Go to A and E if your in Uk and demand x Ray or something .. sneak in Thro the back door . I did it with a wrist problem and it works x

I have been where you are Sarah, so I do sympathise as it is c@@p! I had three months of this - for different reasons - and I have a very high pain threshold, so when I am in that kind of pain you know things are bad. This is the girl who walked around on a broken ankle for a month because it didn't seem to hurt that much!

What is concerning me here is the rapidity of this deterioration. It isn't common. Unless, like me, you happen to have osteonecrosis - which may needs an MRI to determine (Xrays can't always pick it up, except in very bad cases - which mine was!).

I think you need your doctor to refer you for Xray and MRI - they can do this themselves and it shouldn't take too long. I know where I am Xrays are immediate - you just take a slip and go to the hospital, and MRI's take a couple of weeks to get in. If it is osteonecrosis, then you'll be bumped (or should be) - my surgeon told me that if I hadn't had other issues that need to be resolved, he'd have operated immediately (as in I wouldn't have been let out of the hosital to pack even), because osteonecrosis gets worse and worse quickly, and can cause infection to set in.

I hope, for your sake, it isn't that - it may be cold comfort but a very bad case of OA is much better! But if it is, you need to have the surgeon involved.
