When is the best time of day to take citalopram

Hi I've on my 4th day of taking citalopram and I'm wonder when is the best time of the day to take it whether it's the morning or before I go to bed? Advice would be appriciated thanks.

Hi!

Iv tried both mornings and nights, and to be honest i found the mornings best, at the same time every morning! i found that it works better during the day for the anxiety but i suppose it depends when you feel at your lowest! if you suffer mostly at night then i would take it in the evenings! if you find the days difficult then take it first thing so it sets you for the day. Hope this helps x

I have found taking just before bed is the best time for me. Tried other times of day but this seems to work. xxx

I found that taking such a drug at bedtime is better as if you get a dizzy attack it is far less serious if you are lying in bed and in any case you would know nothing about it.

I take mine in the evening. First it was because if I had side effects it would be worse at night and not during work (I didn't really have bad side effects though). Now it's because I have a routine and I won't forget to take it at night - I'm not a morning person! I think they suggest taking it in the morning, but I suppose it's whatever works for you.

Thanks for all your replies very helpfull thanks I'll continue to take the citalopram in the morning as I suffer with the anxiety during the day.

lee1973  citalopram lasts many hours and if you take it overnight the effects will be helpful all next day. Possibly it works slower during sleep.

Just when you are about to sleep.

Lee it really depends as for some people it sends them off to sleep and for some it causes terrible insomnia! So I'd say however it makes you feel in te hours after you take it will be your best judge.
