When should we vote?

In a forum like this I believe we should be encouraging one another all the time. One way to do this is to vote. Vote for the topic if you have thought it worthwhile to open and have a look. Vote for a message if you have read it - only if you are very sure the message was worthless might you withhold your vote. It is not the point whether you agree with the content or not, or think it too long or too short, just that someone has contributed to the forum in a meaningful way. Even a single smilely could be a valuable comment.

Well, there are my thoughts. What do you think?

Hi George,

I looked at this in various ways, but from a technical perspective, this how I would see it.

If you look at this page as an example in the url or address bar we see "when-should-we-vote--299279" and in lettering we see "When should we vote?". Now we break this down as an example, this could be referring to politics, school politics, etc. Even the first words behind the title in the subject shows "/forums/discuss/" - none of these words actually relate to what the content would be on the page. The only part that would be seen first is the "Menu".

In my opinion it gives the wrong information to searches to places like Google, which hits websites many times a day.

But with most webpages its content that matters, so the better the content the better the voting should be.

I see some Subjects on here that are straight to the point and use words that would be classed under "health". A typical way would be to break things down in the url bar. However, we cannot control that aspect of posts - other forums use "tags" to do it, we do not have this option.

This is why I would vote for a more detailed description on remedies or questions. Obviously, the better the remedy the more votes it would receive.

Well, that’s my 2 bucks worth!! LOL… It really depends on the main forum posters how others see it.

Regards,

Les.

Those are great points, all well worth considering. Many thanks. Hoping for other views too.

Hi Doc~

I agree with voting by clicking on the "vote" at the bottom of the page.  People create discussions because it is of interest to them and the other's who join in, it causes a discussion between people.  It doesn't matter what the discussion is about.  If you've joined in at least one time, support the one who created it and vote for them.  If you've answered and it wasn't the same as the person you're responding to, vote for them and let them know their voice was heard.  Doesn't mean you have to agree.  Now if they "tick" you off, just leave the discussion with dignity and click "unfollow this discussion" and be done with it.  To hurt someone purposly isn't what these forums are all about.  So, click it or ticket (vote)!

Great topic, George!

Frustrated Xx

Another interesting reply. More to come I hope and votes too.

Yes, even that diffident smilly is suficiently affirmative to get my vote.

Thank you Marey. Very succinct and carrying approbation with a nice light touch of humour.

tee hee (not so subtle!!)

Now THAT is an example of a confused message. If it had not been such a good example I would NOT give it a vote. Thanks Marey for that chuckle

Ditto what Doc said!  LOLOL

Well, I feel twisted!

better twisted this way  rather than this way  ..that's a "twisted" I'd rather stay clear of!

hey! where did the horns go on the "other twisted"  ie:

blah blah, that reverse devil picture isnt' all that it's cracked up to be

Okay, looking at it like that I prefer being twisted my way.LOL
