When to decrease Preds

Dear Eileen, I am decreasing dose of Preds. I am now doing the 6 and 5mg stretch. This morning I woke up with slight pains in my finger tips, then, sligh pain in my hands. Nothing I would bother with, but I am a little hesitant in going down on preds too quickly. When is the time to take a small drop ? Is it when after a few days or a couple of weeks on one dose, and no more pains are felt in the morning ? You are so wise about all this ! I am NOT going near any of the doctors at my surgery. You seem to know about PMR much more than they do ! I have no blood tests, or anything like that. I am feeling quite OK. All I want to make sure, is, that I do not go down on Preds so quickly, that those horrendous pains come back !....Hope I am not too much trouble...Have a LOVELY EASTER and enjoy how lucky you are in feasting your eyes on such beautiful panoramas....Love. Granny Moss :rose: here is a rose for you !

Really Granny Moss it's about listening to your body. Now you are down to 6mg you just need to try each drop very gently.

First, try taking 6mg for 2 days and 5mg the next and keep repeating those doses for a few weeks.

Then try 6mg one day, 5mg the next for the next 2 or 3 weeks.

The next step would be 6mg for a day, 5mg for two days. See how you feel - if you still feel good after 2 or 3 weeks you can take 5mg every day.

Each time you will maybe get a few aches and pains for a few days but if they go away altogether after 10 days to 2 weeks you know your body is happy again. If the pain starts up after a few days but then gets worse and worse, go back to the last dose you were happy at. But be patient - don't panic because you have sore bits, give it a couple of weeks to see if it settles down again because it often will. Doing it as slowly as this means your body shouldn't react badly and you get a lot of pain - and it is easy to go back to the last dose if you need to.

I've been reducing at the rate of half a mg every 10 days for about 6 weeks now and it has so far gone well - I had a bit of tendon pain in my arm at first but it has just about gone now. And even messing up my knee hasn't had any effect - but then, I HAVE had to sit and rest

Good luck and Happy Easter!

Eileen

A timely reminder Eileen. I went down to 5 a week agao and have not enjoyed it but will persist a bit longer. My GP did say \" give it a week or two\" so he obviously agrees with you. I don't want to go back up because I was supposed to have bloods if I felt an increase was necessary. These triple Bank Holidays, much though I wish all involved well, ARE a pain from some points of view.

Why do we have them Wouldn't it be better to add them on to everyone's holiday entitlement and then let them choose.Forget it. People have been talking about a four term year for as long as I can remember.

Granny Moss, good luck with the reductions and glad you are feeling well.

Happy Easter.

BettyE - for most of the health service Bank Holidays are a figment of the imagination! For those who are forced to have them they are a pain in the anatomy! Since the UK insists on Monday holidays it throws all the Monday outpatient clinics into chaos. And when we lived in Scotland you never knew where you were - there are local Monday holidays there and some companies took the local one, some took the UK one and some took both! Scotland has a four term year in schools: mid August to October, mid October to Christmas, Christmas to end of March, mid-April to end of June. You can still have a decent warm holiday in October, that's for the fruit farmers who couldn't have a break in summer or for going potato picking, spring holiday is always the first half of April - you might get Good Friday, but then again you might not. So much better!

What does irritate me beyond measure, however, is that all the rest of our family on the husband's side persist in asking \"are the family coming for ...\", insert whichever weekend is coming up. The response is the same as it has been for years: \"No, they're working\". And they express surprise - how they think patients are looked after heaven only knows!

I find the idea of giving the day off for that wedding quite amusing - it seems everyone is fleeing the country with the 3 BHs in 10 days! Just hope they aren't disappointed when they get to Spain and it's raining. We are warmer here in the mountains than Rome is this week  German TV has the broadcast on about 5 or 6 different channels from 9.30 to 5pm - I'm hoping Eurosport will have decent coverageof the snooker instead

The thing I really want to emphasise with the reductions is the SIZE. Half or 1mg drops are quite big enough to deal with - in fact, by 5mg it really should be half a mg at a time. If that is successful it's quicker than 2.5mg drops that fail and leave you feeling downhearted.

Eileen

Dear EileenH, thank you for taking time to answer me. I have a book (mall) that is my PMR notes book. I have written down all your intructions, and I feel already much more confident in my \"drops\" I stiil have the tingling in my left shoulder, but thankgoodness, no pain....My feet get rather swallen, and I am grateful that I could find some pretty flat healed shoes (pumps ?) to wear....Lilley and Skinner but made in China....and I find them comfortable. See you in the other Forum ! Happy Easter !...Granny Moss

I hope you all have a great Easter I am going to the Easter Dance tomorrow night in the Irish Club

Hi Sparklin - It sounds as though the slow taper is going well and that you are feeling better. Have a happy Easter and enjoy the Easter dance tomorrow!

Hello there Sparklin, I guess 10 down to 7.5 mg sounds too big. The general feeling seems to be that below 10 mg. we reduce much more slowly. The main thing is you're feeling up to this Irish dance - sounds great.

Are your Irish eyes a'sparklin? Hope so! :D

Dear EileenH. Have this morning started on the Yeo Valley organic greek style? yogurt, after your kind reply to my query about taking Lansoprazole. It made me gag a little...but I am OK...The yogurt I found in the supermarket is : Yeo Valley- Greek style ? with honey. Probiotic ?

West Country Dairy, organic : Greek Style natural = natural yogurt 85%

Honey 8% - sugar, Tapioca starch ? concentrated lemon juce.... I will appreciated any comments on this product. I read the threads on this pages, and I am amazed how we all carry on from day to day, with all the pain and problems that PMR causes! We deserve to congratulate ourselves for been so brave!.... If we could see the pains and anxieties, written on each one's foreheads...how many that we envy, we would feel pity for ..... Anon.... : Granny Moss. xxx

Hi Sparklin,

Hope you're having a good day. My husband has taken perindropil for high blood pressure for a few years now, and has suffered absolutely no side effects at all, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Best wishes,

Molly.
