When to give up trying them? What are alternatives?

I have been on 20 mg for 28 days now with zilch results.  I didn't read the side affects and didn;t know about the sickness or wouldn;t have taken them with my vomit phobia!  Anyway, to cheer other people up, I have had the same appetite and been eating normally.  I tried Sertraline before and zilch response too.  Looks like the GP will give up after these two (I am taking them for anxiety).  I am wondering if SSRIs don;t work for me (I have a very high threshold where medication is concerned) and

, if so, what;s the alternative?  Also, is there still a chance they will work?  Only side affects I am having is feeling tense through the night and vivid realistic dreams.  Oh yes and headaches on and off.  Also permanentlyu edgy.  Thanks for help.  Just to repeat the questions 1) how long till I should give up on them? 2) What are the alternatives apart from Sertraline?

ive tried alot of antidepressants, the only one that i can tolerate is prozac,i dont feel edgy at all on it. Lexapro made me extremely edgy like i had 10 cups of coffee. Prozac makes me feel really awake and comfortable

Hello

The question about stopping the medication, NO your GP may increase the dose for a time.

Basically yes there are othe medications in this group and we would not advise a replacement medication here. Talk to your GP regards your medication and He will decide what you need to do

Medication names can be found in NHS Choices web site, although your suggestions really are only that. Your GP prescribes scripts for drugs taking into consideration your basic Health Concerns that you have,Given that He is in partnership with you with regard your health concerns. Follow your GPs advice

You need to give it a little longer.  Sometimes SSRIs can take 8 weeks or more to start working and you don't just go boom - I feel better, overnight.  It's a gradual change in your mood.  The sickness and other side effects usually fade with a little more time too.  If it's no better in a few weeks talk to your GP about maybe increasing the dose a little before jumping to something else.  I was on Citalopram for four years and it took about three months to see any significant improvement in mood, but hopefully it will happen for you.
