I've been on citalopram in the past before I felt they stopped working. not sure if this is the case now been on 20mg for 4 weeks now and still not seeing improvements I feel worse than ever x everyone says to keep going and it will get better but feeling pretty hopeless had a few ok days last week but they were far from great. feel back to square one again now my depression is pretty bad even though my main problem is anxiety. my anxiety is horrible it's making it really difficult to function. the only time I feel safe is when I'm in bed but I force myself to get up every day and do stuff bit it's so difficult I see people improving already and I don't really see any x feeling pretty hopeless and hoping for some reassurance x
it can take six weeks or longer. Everybodyโs different. Keep going. if you can speak with a counselor who can help you with the anxiety.
hi
i am the same at the moment but ive changed meds twice in the past 4 months so going up gradually on the new meds so waiting to see if they will help me as ive had a bad time over the past 2 years with my anxiety resurfacing badly. before June i had been on citalopram for 20 years. i assume it stopped working. id give it another 2 weeks if you can manage it or ask the doctor to increase your dose. the most you can go up to is 40mg with them.
i wish you well. let us know how you get on. take care. Tammy

thank you x yeah I see a MH nurse and shes lovely but it doesn't help as she has never been on them herself . can it take 6 weeks to see improvement?
hi Tammy. I was originally on citalopram for years and it worked amazing x had a bit of a setback and changed pretty quickly without seeing if it would pass. I'm now back on citalopram after trying 2 others with worsening effects or no improvement at all x
I'm worried about increasing as the side effects are kicking my ass ๐
how long have you been on your new meds for and did the others not work at all?
Hello! As people have said, give it 6 weeks and if no improvement go back to the doc! I know how much is sucks. Also, if you haven't tried, have a look at getting some CBT. It really helped me. As always, face your fears and try not to let anxiety consume you. Become comfortable with it.
Hi , im so sorry you are going through this , can i ask you what your symptoms are ?
yeah I'm starting CBT next week x I've done some in the past but that's gone straight out the window because it was a long time ago x thank you ๐
yeah ofcourse. my depression is pretty bad and my anxiety is really high
brain fog tension headache palpitations feeling of dread dizzyness panic it's tough to say the least x
yeah the side effects arent great. after citalopram i was put on Sertraline for 3 months with no positive change at all, worse probably and in mid September they put me on venlafaxine. all those changes came from my psychiatrist. its awful switching meds again so soon and going through the change all over again.
I was on sertraline too for 10 weeks and it made me feel like I was going crazy!
what one are you on now? venlafaxine? how are you feeling at the minute? any better at all. anxiety is horrible x I feel like I'm losing my mind sometimes it's horrible x
Have you had your vitamin levels checked ? A vitamin D deficiency causes those said symptoms !
Vitamin D deficiency can also cause IBS , Gastritis , bloating , it can be as bad as to cause hallucinations and schizophrenic
I'm sorry you're going through that, I definitely feel your pain. I've been going through the same thing since mid September. I started Citalopram and took it for 4 weeks but I felt like it was making me feel worse. It made me feel tired and run down all the time and jittery. I decided to ween myself off of it and what's been making me feel much better is a natural mood enhancer I got called Noomost Mood +. It has a low dose of 5htp, also L-Tyrosine, Ashwaganda, Magnesium, etc. I've only taken it for about 3 days now but I feel much better than I did on the Citalopram. I would maybe ask your doc about switching meds if you're not liking the Citalopram or see if something like the Noomost pills would be an option.
How long did it take you to ween off ? Im so happy youre doing better i hope it continues for you
Thank you! <3 I hope so too lol. I'm about over this anxiety. I was taking 5mg Citalopram for 4 weeks, then went down to 2.5mg for a week then switched over to the Noomost pills.
Thank you !
yeah anxiety is awful. so debilitating. im a bit up and down atm.
how long have you been on it for now? is it starting to work for you? x
