Hi Mummy:  When you typed you've been told you have IBS, does that mean that you have had a colonoscopy to rule out any nasties in your colon?  IBS seems to be an "umbrella" word used when docs are not sure what you have because of all the symptoms.  I too get pain sometimes sharpe sometimes aching on lower left side but it does not extend up to my rib cage (altho, I've read here that it can).  I have TERRIBLE burning pain and cramping (almost passed out a week ago) from side to side below my navel right before or after d.  I get gas pains that can extend into upper back (thot I was experiencing a heart attack one time).  I've not read or heard of any leg involvement but anything is possible with a diagnosis of IBS.  Have you been under an additional amount of stress?  How long have you been experiencing the problems?  Hope you are feeling better and I'm sure others will have more replies with info for you.

No I've never had a colonoscopy I've had the camera down and ultrasounds and not much was found apart from esophagitis I've had it around a year and was under quite a lot of stress at the time the aching is mostly under my ribs and has been since this started

You can get joint pain with IBS, back and rib cage ache along with stomach pain. Pain can occur just about anywhere with IBS. You don't need a colonoscopy to diagnose IBS unless you have alarm symptoms.  I was diagnosed with IBS without a colonoscopy but I had an ultrasound, urine test, stool tests and a celiac test which revealed nothing.

Hi pippa just read your forum I had the same tests as you two years ago also I have health anxiety/general I have started having these hot flushes and trembling pins and needles etc the dr up my citalspram up to 40 mg a year last march because of this do you think it's because I am worrying about my ibs I even went to cbt last year thanks for listening

Worrying won't help your general health and it will make your IBS worse.

Hard not to worry though.

What is "health Anxiety/general?

I have a very anxious personality because of Asperger Syndrome.  However, I am not as anxious as I used to be.  I was diagnosed with stress related IBS so I now try to avoid stress because it can trigger flare ups. Distraction techniques help to calm me down.

Hi pippa it's funny how stress and anxiety can cause so many things I have had it since I can remember think I had i bs long before I was diagnosed if you don't mind me asking what have you got never heard of it

Health anxiety is you worry you have some thing wrong with you all the time general anxiety is you worry about everything had c b t classes on medication go for so long then it raises ugly head again

Asperger syndrome is a high functioning form of autism.  I have had it all my life and experienced many difficulties because of it.  One of my problems was trying to pass interviews, I also have social interaction difficulties which were a lot worse when I was younger.  I finally saw my GP because the Job Centre couldn't help me and suggested I see a doctor about my problems.  At the age of 40 I was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome. It is nit uncommon to get a late diagnosis of Aspergers.
