Where to turn?

I've had depression for just over 2 years, on top of having social anxiety for the majority of my teenage life. It keeps bottling up inside of me and I don't know who to turn to. My family don't really understand me, even if I told them they wouldn't try to understand. I used to have a closed friendship group but it turned into this "laddish" culture group which I really didn't enjoy, plus depression started to push me away from everyone. WIth no understanding family, no friends or a girlfriend I don't know who to speak to. I'm lost and this is where I've turned up... Someone please help me

depression certainly isolates people. Have you tried to talk sensibly with them or just one or two of them in private?  Have you seen a professional for their opinion?

Have you considered cognitive behavioural therapy to break the negativity in your comments and thoughts?  Try these options and things will hopefully improve.

Hi Kunnik

Sadly the closest ones to us either don't get how we feel or we find it hard to turn to them in case we feel misunderstood or rejected.. This is why we start to push people away and isolate ourselves.  This is a very common feature of depression and anxiety

Two years is a long time to be dealing with this on your own. Going for support at the start can be stressful.  Can you make an appointment with your doctor as I do feel you need some positive support and he/she can point you in the right direction. If it is to stressful to open up in front of a stranger write down how you feel or a list of words to express the feelings you are having. Tell the doctor you have social anxiety and hand him what you have written.  This makes it easier to get a cross everything you need to say. Doctors see people every day that have anxiety so they have a very good understanding of this and will know what to do.

You don't have to suffer in silence and have your whole life ahead of you.  You just need a bit of support to get you to a place where you can manage your anxiety better and lift your depression..

Go see you doctor and consider therapy.
