This may seem an odd question, but so many people subscribe to Sky or Virginmedia, both of which offer huge packages of channels. Virginmedia states their XL TV package is over 230+ channels, but is it? Are they including all of the +1 hour channels, or HD only channels?

So, many people say there’s not much on TV and they subscribe to these huge TV packages. Yet, they go out on the town drinking, while they could be at home watching TV.

We subscribe to the Kahuma Package + one extra TiVo box in the bedroom. This gives us, TV XL, Broadband XXL, Phone XL and includes 2 TiVo boxes (1 x Tb Box and a 500Gb Box). It also allows the kids to watch cable TV on their tablets, etc. And on top of that we have one NetFlix subscription, but not through Virginmedia, it is better to subscribe directly via the NetFlix website. The free Netflix offer was being charged at £5.99 after 6 months, and the picture quality was standard. We pay £6.99, but for that we can have 3 devices watching Netflix at the same time, including on in HD. NetFlix offers 3 payment levels for you to choose from, you receive the same amount of movies regardless of the payment level, the only difference is how many devices you want fed with HD versions instead of standard.

We prefer TiVo than any other box Virginmedia does, you can record on it, search all TV, YouTube, NetFlix, Catch-up, On-Demand, etc. The only reason we have the largest package is because – I rarely go anywhere, and virtually housebound – the kids like to be able to watch Virginmedia in bed, this also shows them what’s on all channels at a glance. And it allows them to record programmes to either TiVo box, if they want to watch it another time. Our daughter has friends around and they watch movies, (They call it a Movie Night, and buy all the rubbish food you can imagine! But they enjoy themselves, watching movies they haven’t seen before.

Even with the latest price increase, you cannot beat Virginmedia for choice! We also have a large loyality discount because we 4 mobile contracts with Virgin Mobile!

The number of calls we get from BT, Sky, etc is unreal – but they all say the same thing they cannot do a package anywhere near the price we pay.

Well, if you can prove you have no TV receiving equipment capable of receiving the BBC Channels 'Live'. There's also the part when you answer the door to a guy saying he's from the TV LIcensing Department, make sure you have a Video Phone and state you are videoing the whole procedure. By Law, they are not allowed to 'cold-call' so if you say "Okay, what's your name for my reference purposes" they will  leave you alone. This is a well known trick all over YouTube, some of them very rude.

Better programmes on ITV Player anyway! lol

we had a bit of trouble at first with them sending us threating letters etc

 so we phoned them and told them that we do not watch live tv and have no airel in the house . they havnt bothered us since .

we just watch catch up .razz now.or vids,

i like bbc channel 4 lots of documentries 

i watched one on shaksperes mother last week was very interesting

and one on kleopatra how she had her siblings murdered .that was good to .eek

We tend to watch many documentries, especially how the FBI tracks down people with the smallest possible details to find murderers, we find them very interesting.

We also like watching Police documentries and how they differ with tactics used in other countries, and cultures. It is fascinating how one country handles things to others.

One thing I am against, and even the technical engineer said I would cancel after 28 days, was adding Sky Movies+ to our package. Okay, you get sport channels, but no one in our house even watches sport. Yet, just having that on our bill sent it up by over £40 on top of the £85 we pay per month! So, I had that removed ages ago.

Besides, if there is a good movie at the cinema we tend to go and watch it there. Huge screen and massive picture, I always book Admission Boxes. Basically, they are small rooms with 2 normal seats, and a space for a wheelchair. They can only be accessed via a lift with a key. We book tickets only on Tuesdays, because seats are 50% off and if you book online you save a further 10%. smile

Come to think of it we only watch news on Central  ITV3. Come to think of it you can watch BBC News on the internet! Perhaps, the BBC allows people in the UK only to watch it.

well that sounds like a good idea glad some cinamas are doing it .

policed documenries leave me cold , i mean look at america each state has diferant laws .but everyone is differant and what pleases some annoys others. we are after all, all differant arent we.? i am a history buff so i suck the life out of anything linked to history .

cant get enough , esp how we used to do stuff , i think it comes from a schools programme we watched , as part of study lesson

If you remember that then you must remember Upstairs, Downstairs from 1971 to 1975 with the scottish butler Hudson.

Our broadband is virtually instant... and we are only on 160Mb download per second. We do have upgrades coming 200Mb per second, then 400Mb per second.

After that, we will have 1Gb per second, bringing us up to the USA speeds that they are currently on. Trouble by that time, the USA will be on much higher speeds.

Over here current modems can only handle upto 400Mb per second! To even get to 1Gb per second to anyone, requires a full rewire from where Telewest or NTL originally laid their cables, years ago. But, this time instead of switching to copper wires in the roads, it will be a case of doing full rewires into your property again, but doing away with wires and changed to fibre optics, so then your cable modem must capable of handling not just 1Gb per second download, but also a 1Gb per second upload!!  

There is one problem with all these speed increases, okay everyone has huge 1Gb lines, but there is a huge "bottle-neck" at the end! Which is the equipment you use, a computer that works today may not work properly using the new speeds unless ungraded! Hence, that could mean a new PC, or tablet, phone, or in some cases you can lower the speed by setting up a cable modem/router to use various speeds. We have dual speed routers these days, but the input is far too low for a 1Gb line!

Virginmedia have already rewired one village with 1Gb lines, but people are complaining on their trial because they are only receiving 880Mb out of the 1,000Mb..... No pleasing some people! lol

oh god i loved that programme i watched it thru 3 times as an adult i liked him in the profesionals as well great well schooled actor was Gordon Jackson , i must buy the box set again some day . 

i liked the scottish charector played by falcon mackie as well in porridge

That was one programme that used to have us all glued to the TV, mind you if I seen it these days I would think different. lol Gawd, The Professionals - used to think their car was cool... not now though! I would miss all things we have in our car, front heated seats, etc.

I look up all the movies, programmes that have been released all on one website, I am a member - that's only because I write reviews on movies.

If a trailer is missing on IMDB I usually copy the title and then right-click and Select Search Google for "" then when the page comes up from Google I hit Video
