i second that. Wrightington is brilliant. self referred myself there after no luck for years at my local NHS Trust, within one minute of consutation thry offered me surgery.Three weeks later i was all sorted.
I’m in the U S…Michigan.It’s been interesting to note a few of the differences in care.In my case I was walking around on a fractured hip for 3 weeks…I thought I had bursitis…because I had not fallen or anything. Finally went to emergency room and was shocked to hear the news. ..I had surgery about 12 hours later. That was 6 weeks ago…and I have to say I’m about 95% back to doing everything I did before.

I think the most important thing is to get a first class surgeon.
I had mine done at Oswestry, (UK), it’s a specialist orthopaedic hospital, and it’s all really slick. They do thousands a year. I would definitely recommend it.
I agree with the finding a good surgeon. I live in Mirfield in West Yorkshire- when I had bunion surgery in 2016 and my hip issues were starting to cause me problems again (!) he gave me the name of a surgeon - Mr Metcalf. He said if he ever needed a THR then Mr Metcalf would be the man! that was a good enough endorsement for me! (as the foot surgeon was superb too!)
And he wasnt wrong! 3 weeks post op and all going remarkably well!
I had mine done in The Rivers Hospital, Hertfordshire.
Wrightington for me too, October 16th 2008 and I was sure when I woke up after the operation, that it would be a success
i had both hips done at the same time in york general, brilliant surgeon, had me back at work within 7 weeks ,amazing that was last april ,my annual check up is due in 3 weeks
City Hospital Nottingham UK. Mr Radford. Great pre-op information and post op follow up. Also no need for the dreaded pressure stockings. Had a 30 day self injection course of heparin type product.
Now 2yrs post op and feeling 200%.
To be absolutely honest, it’s not just the hospital that’s important. It’s also worth checking out the Consultant you’ve been given. I’d try https://www.iwantgreatcare.org/ plus any NHS or specific hospital data you can find on the internet. I was originally given a Consultant that I was not happy with, and then opted to change to another one. It delayed my surgery by about a month, but I’m really happy with the result of my THR. Good luck.
I find it interesting that you call your doctor Mr. in the UK…not Dr. I’m in U .S. and have never heard of that.
In the UK we call the surgeons Mr, but all the others are called Dr!

Yeah, really not quite sure of the logic behind that one…
I’m surprised that it seems OK to recommend Doctors and hospitals by name, but not the internet site which may help you make your decision. Illogical.
It all goes back to the Middle Ages and whether they were apprenticed, had a degree or not. I do not really understand it all. What I find funny is that doctors are pleased to become Dr and then fight through to become Mr again.
