I have seen a few gynaecologist and none of them mentioned I might be suffering fron AV. My last examination he said everything is looking normal down below and discharged me and made me thin I am wasting their time. He said to only come back if I spot blood. My GP said it might be AV and I do agree as I have the symptoms. Constant burning, lower abdominal discomfort, discharge sometimes and itching. I am just wondering whether the gynae should be able to diagnose me with AV. Thanks
Hi marie
when i has it a Gyno told me, after an exam.. He noticd dryness straight away.
Also BV was picked up on a pap smear and thrush, and he hadnt noticed that at exam, only picked up on pap smear test..
mine was actually CV ..
do you think ou may have Thrush ? With the symptoms you describe ..
did you have a smear..
Maybe a canestan cream treatment may cure it if it is ..and an oral Fluconazole tablet
Maybe test your Vaginal PH via a vaginal PH home tester see if its normal range
eco care ph testers are very good

The gynae at the hospital diagnosed mine
It was my GP. She did not do an examination, she just went by what I told her - that I feel generally dryer, intercourse is sometimes painful and my forchetta tends to have a superficial split in the skin after intercourse. She trusts that, by age 48, I know my own body. She doesn't examine or test for thrush now either - I know when I have got it. You should know your own body.
The burning is very typical of AV and sadly so many of us have seen a gynaecologist and got no help, mine didn't diagnose it either. The discomfort in my lower abdomin used to drive me mad as did the terrible vaginal burning. So far I can only keep this at bay by using gynest and then actigel on the days in between as I found gynest soothed the problem but could provoke thrush. Actigel helps prevent thrush. It is trial and error and different things seem to work for people as some prefer the other treatments. It has taken me 5 years to find something that works for me and it has been hell. I hope you find something that works for you Marie.
My GYN diagnosed the vaginal atrophy. She did the pap smear, the results came back from tissue samples and those was the results from the lab; that was when I was 52; I'm now 62. I don't have any itching, burning or other uncomfortable symptoms. Once in a while I'm super dry in the outer vaginal area. Other than that I'm dry internally and intercourse is not possible. My gyn is only prescribing vagifem or premarin. Premarin is so messy. Now I just use vagifem...don't know why because it doesn't help. I mainly use replens and started vitamin E capsule internally. I started using those microthin Carefree brand pantiliners to help with keeping my panty dry. Who would have thought this would occur!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yikes! We need some fantastic femaie GYN to address this. The other issue of not having intercourse is drying up internally and thus that opening has shrunk....geez....
Oh dear, it's not good is it?
hi marcy
no i dont have any itching, burning with my dryness either..
only got that when it was thrush or something else ..
i use for dryness ovestin ( Estriol ) Ovules, they are not messy like the cream you insert. i always halve an ovule aswell and use half occassionly.
also Premeno Duo Ovules from stress no more uk are very good, ( non hormonal) they are not so messy either, and they are dual action.
also i halve them too, as half seems to hit the spot for me
have a nice weekend
