I am now 5 days post op and am really struggling with the ups and downs of emotions and my fluctuating body temperature. I am as sure as I can be it’s not an infection. I never expected it to be like this.
the blood thinners made me freezing cold. I am hot by nature. I was told that I had a major op with severe trauma to my body. The anaesthetics knocked me big time. now two months later, I get hot and cold all the time. I am very tired and feel 10-15 years older. The surgeon said I must be patient… healing will take 12-16 months. Temperature changes influence my mobility. I feel EMPTY
I am nearly a year post THR, but I do sympathise as I remember post op the first night in hospital sweating so much. I got a heat rash too. It did all settle down and was due a bit to the drugs especially blood thinners. I was emotional too and felt very down. It will get better though. I am now pain free, been on a walking holiday in Austria and regularly go Nordic walking, so all this will be temporary. I hope you feel better soon. Wishing you a bright future with your new hip.
Definitely the blood thinners my overheating and freezing stopped shortly after I finished the course. Wish they had warned me about side effects
Hi Jill.
Don’t worry, I, too felt exactly like that, thought no one loved me and that i was too much trouble for everyone. I think it’s all the meds you’re on, from the morphine tablets to the simple paracetamols, they all muck about with your body in some ways.
It will pass, don’t let it get you down. All will be well in the end you’ll see.
I am going for my annual check up on Thursday, and hope to be signed off for good then. I feel great, it was all worth it and I’m walking 3-4 miles every day compared to how I was before the op, barely able to walk far without struggling and stopping. 61 yrs old and feel more like 41 now!! Good luck, chin up, and do your exercises!
Let me know how you get on,
Lotsa love,
Pat (from Wales)
Now 7 day post RTHR. I experienced some weird things including minor hot flushes and bizarre dreams that seemed to continue while I was awake. I put that down to impact of the anaesthetic and meds not yet out of my body. Last night was first night without them
Thanks Andrew. I have not experienced bad dreams but definitely have a more positive outlook. Best ofluck foryour recovery x
Hi Pat. Thank you for your message. It is so good to hear that it’s worth it in the end.I am feeling a lot more positive today. Gill (,Bath,)
Thanks Annie. I didn’t think about the blood thinners. Better day today so far. Best wishes x
Thanks for your message Sarah. I didn’t know the blood thinners do this. Oh well I’ll just have to stick it out for another 23 days. It sounds like you are doing great. Keep up the good work x Gill
