Why doI hve kidney disease?

I have just been diagnosed with CKD stage 3 (GFR 48) and I can't understand why. I have low blood pressure and don't have diabetes. I am slim fit and healthy and age 52 so not that old. I also have a low white blood count. Can anyone shed some light? My GP does not seem worried, and so nor should I be, but I feel uncomfortable not knowing what has caused this.

Sorry about the typos - my keyboard is not registering all the letters. Should say 'why do I have kidney disease?'

I don't even think your doctors will be able to give you an answer.  There are very many people around with CKD, a large number with Stage 3, including many children.  There are certain tests and investigations they can carry out to rule out certain causes in individual cases, but I think if they knew the answer to your question they would probably be able to find a cure!  I understand that the eGFR test which has revealed your CKD3 was first introduced by the Government as a way of investigating whether such kidney disease is an ageing process or a disease process.  I don't know whether they have any answers yet but I was told by the National Kidney Federation that when the test was introduced loads of people were suddenly diagnosed with CKD3.  My friend's family doctor told her that on its introduction loads of elderly people were rushing off to consultants in panic, and he described it as the Government having "opened a can of worms"!

I would have thought the important thing for you was to have your blood tests monitored from time to time to see that the disease remains stable, in which case you will have no need to worry.

Thank you. She said I would be tested every six months and that the two tests (one in January and one in March) show that it is stable but that it was normal 5 years ago. Interesting what you say about opening a can of worms.
