I went to my doctor this morning as im suffering with lack of sleep/constant broken sleep and back, shoulder, and neck aches every day - especially when I first wake up. It has been like this for the past couple of months now.
Im 19 and feel like an old woman, but why has he given me a perscription for Mirtazapine 15mg 1 tablet at night per day?
My boyfriend has told me to not take them as they will make me worst (apparently) and im feeling tired and achy because of the heat. I dont want to feel like this all through summer.
I've just done a quick search for you - here's what they say about your prescription
Mirtazapine is used to treat depression. It improves mood and feelings of well-being. Mirtazapine is an antidepressant that works by restoring the balance of natural chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the brain.
How to use mirtazapine
Read the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist before you start using mirtazapine and each time you get a refill because new information may be available. If you have any questions regarding the information, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Take this medication by mouth, with or without food, usually once daily at bedtime or as directed by your doctor. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy, but should not exceed 45 milligrams per day.
Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. Remember to use it at the same time each day. It may take between 1-4 weeks to notice improvement in your symptoms. Therefore, do not increase your dose or take it more often than prescribed.
It is important to continue taking this medication even if you feel well. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor. Some conditions may become worse when the drug is abruptly stopped. Your dose may need to be gradually decreased.
Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.

It seems like it's one of the newer antidepressants. Don't mess about with it whatever you do as you have to keep on it until the doctor decides otherwise, stopping abruptly will give you withdrawal and you don't want to go through that. It will help you sleep and once you sleep properly, the tension in your back and neck etc should ease up.
Unfortunately your boyfriend isn't right, it's nothing to do with the heat. Have you got anyone else you can talk to, it helps to get it off your chest. Please take your pills and know that it takes 4-6 weeks before they kick in.
Good luck hun....
Hey lozzychops00
I've been on Mirtazapine for 6 weeks due to insomnia and low mood. The first 4 weeks were on 15mg and now two weeks on 30mg.
They have helped me but everyone is different. I was given other medications before Mirtazapine which made me worse.
The only advice I can give is to trust your GP. He has listened to what you have said and given you medication based on his medical opinion. Take it as prescribed.
Take care and I hope you feel better soon x
Hi again, I am so glad that viclacy has posted her experience with mirtazapine. There is nothing better than someone who has been there! I too tried other drugs and they made me feel even more suicidal than I was when I first went to my doctor! I am now on Prozac and it is working a treat. No more depressing thoughts, and that horrible black cloud has lifted and for the first time in months I am looking forward to and planning for the future. Hang in there, it takes time but you will feel better. X
