Wierd Colourful Dreams

Hi all I have noticed that the Amytriptline do cause me to sleep quite soundly snd there are odd wierd dreams, just wonder how many other people remember some details...

I was so surprised that I was Tap Dancing...So clearly!!! I could feel my feet in my shoes tapping toes and heels on a pavement...

Just wonder if anyone else has a funny dream to remember, or if you find this with Amytriptline or other drugs, as we all take such a mix every day.

I have ditched the wedge of pillows now and slept on my left side last night for some time with a pillow between my legs I slept so soundly....

I now have two large memory foam pillows and another softer one to wedge myself up if I wake after just a few hours but I do sleep much better than most I have seen here, not had a bad night yet...

Thanks for looking in again Ian.

I can relate to that. I didn't tap dance but kept my husband awake by babbling on in a foreign language

sounds interesting Ian, but no ...but I am not familiar with that medication - is it for sleeping or pain relief?    keep on dancing !!!

I take Amitriptyline & yes I also have weird dreams, not every night but when I do my husband tells me I was 'on one last night'  I shout out loud, he can hear me very clearly & im in the spare room!!  I was taking 50mg a night but I've been cutting it down every other night 30/40 - 20/30, I want to come off them as I've been on them for 2yrs now, they do say they are not addictive but I beg to differ, THEY ARE! I panic when I've forgotten to put in my repeat prescription, all I can think of is how am I going to sleep!!  I've tried relaxation classes, reading, bath before bed, waiting until I fall asleep naturally!!! 2/3am then wide awake at 6am! Happy dreaming Ian.

Know how you feel. I took myself off them, gradually, some months ago as I felt they were dumbing me down during the day.

Since feel much brighter, sharper with no ill effects at all.

It hasn't bothered me but if your having night of dreams etc..I'd stop taking it..I have heard it was a medicine they are thing taking of market

Hi Ian,

I am so glad you are sleeping so well. The weird dreams are just an added entertainment bonus! Ha! I have used amitriptyline for years for sleep but it never gave me weird dreams.

Three months ago when I had my revision THR, I was so doped up that I can remember only one event while I was in the hospital. I cannot remember eating or drinking or ANYTHING! Next thing I knew I was in a rehab facility which I knew I was going to go to, but could not remember the ride there.

I remember seeing double and seeing people who were not there. Not the scary ghost frightening people like in the movies, but people. And this was while I was awake!

After I had a fall, I asked what pain medication I was on and reported my symptoms. I told my nurse to stop the 24 hour morphine. Then I was fine.

But you Ian, it sounds like you were kicking up your heels to better times ahead now that you can move about again! I think of your happy feet and smile!

Hi Critter,

Really? Taking amitriptyline off the market? I am curious to know where you heard this. It would surprise me because it is an old medication with solid studies behind it.

Hi Julie,

I too have taken this for about 4 years just for sleep. I have vivid weird wonderful dreams anyway, so I never thought anything about it. However your comment about addiction rings true with me because the few times I have forgotten to take it or, like you, had a lapse between refills, strange bursts of psychedelic colors burst through my head with unpleasant sensations and no real sleep.

So I just make sure I do not forget to take it. I do not equate this experience with Ian's dreams though because this is certainly when I miss a dose. But it is a brain drug and those are powerful.

I have asked my doctor to wean down now because the pill knocks me out dead to the world and I have 3 budding female teens in my house now and I do not wish to give them the chance to sneak in and out of the house or break curfew because they know I am out cold!

Hi Dawn, yes seems to have opened a can of worms here hahah, well I only take 5mgs and I read for 30 mins then sleep for 6 to 7 hours and have some dreams, not every night, but they are wierd and very vivid, but not to worry, they do solve the sleeplessness that some folks report, and dreams dont worry me, if I have to be out to the nurse, I just dont take them, and get a shorter sleep,SIMPLES!!

Thanks for looking in again ian.++

I take 100 mgs. But am now cutting down slowly as described in my other post in your thread.

Happy tapping my friend!

💛 Dawn

Hi Dawn, I've cut my Amitriptyline down too quickly, I woke this morning & like you said I also got the psychadelic colours before my eyes, a purple/blue, but you'll never believe it!! I went to my medicine pack & I only have 4 10mgs left!! So I've only taken 2! Now this has got me in a panic, it'll be a two crutch run up the docs for me in the morning for an emergency prescription! I see critter's msg about it being taken off the market!  I don't think they have, my docs are hot on anything like that! I used to take Distalgesic, they were one powerful drug! 1 of those would give me  at least 6 hrs sleep! I had awful nightmares when they were suddenly stopped!!

Ive been doing quite well the last couple of days but, when I got up today my legs & feet went purple & I had blood spots all over my feet, then the bruising came out so I took an aspirin & within an hour the blood spots faded & my legs returned to their normal colour.  Someone put something on about that a few days ago, I think it was Nadine I'll have to look back over for it.  I'm lying in bed and my legs are tingling & on fire!  So definitely docs for me in the morning!  Hope to catch up with you again soon.

Julie.

Hi Ian, I'm going to nickname these drugs as we go along!! These will be called trippy's from now on!  Hope your progressing well.

Julie

Yes Julie, keep me informed!
