Hi,
Can anyone relate to the appearance of lines and spots when focussing on an object? I don’t ‘see’ them all the time. I had a clear bill of health when I last visited the optometrist about 6 months ago. Feeling anxious!!! ![]()
Hi Julia
Yes, I can certainly relate. I’ve had spots and lines and blurrings and things at the side of vision etc. for many years. It’s all anxiety! Like you, I’ve had my eyes tested in detail quite a few times and they always come back A1.
This is a big clue that what you are experiencing is just another scary symptom of anxiety. Anxiety makes us hyper-vigilant about everything, particularly our bodies (and minds). Normal bodily sensations that happen all the time are suddenly put under a magnifying glass and appear to be weird and abnormal. They are not. It’s just that we are looking closely and in minute detail.
I have checked with friends and everybody has these spots and lines and weird wiggly bits in their eyesite (they are minute particules on the surface of the lens from the dust and whatnot in the atmosphere). Normally nobody notices them. The brain just filters them out in our sight, BUT if you are very anxious your brain and nervous system are on high alert and watching out for ANYTHING (even the tiniest thing) that might be even vaguely construed as a reason to be scared. It doesn’t mean that there is a good reason to be scared. All it actually means is that you are in an anxious state! There is nothing wrong with you.
All the best xx
Thanks for your response! Being hypersensitive to every body symptom is absolutely exhausting, which I’m sure everyone on this forum can relate. Although, it’s very reassuring knowing other people experience the same body sensations. Anxiety affects us in so many ways!!
Anxiety 100%.
I get it mildy from time to time. I used to get severe anxiety attacks that woke me up. No joke, it was like someone had applied a filter to my vision. wavy lines, glistening dark. any light in the room overly intense.
Its to do with adrenaline and hormones flooding your system and your pupils dilating.
How frightening being woken up by this! Sorry to hear! I hope things have improved for you. Many thanks for the reassurance also.
