Hi All.
I had my first Prostap injection on Monday the 23rd of March for Endo and have yet to have any side effects. Was hoping that this is it, and i won't get any. But feel that maybe it is leading me into a false sense of security. Do the side effects kick in later?
Any info would be great.

Hi Sarah, it was a few years back now but when I was given Prostap SR it took about two months or so for the side effects (hot flushes, feeling very claustrophobic and weight gain of around 15 pounds) but these soon subsided once I ceased using it - I was on it for seven months only. To be fair, the year I was on it there was a heat wave and it was over the summer!

I'm wondering why you and/or your doctor haven't opted to have your endo surgically removed. I had mine removed three weeks ago and I'm now pain free. I didn't have any organs removed either.

It isn't for everyone to be fair Tracy not least given that each surgery results in adhesions which the endometriosis can and often does become embroiled in. I too had surgery the first two times, I was pain free with normal periods for about three years then that reduced to an avderage of eighteen months between surgeries resulting in me now having had over a dozen culminating in a full hysterectomy and bi-lateral oopherectomy ten years ago. Despite having about six or seven years of happiness with no pain it has now returned. To be fair, I had stage four endo and those who don't may find their relief periods are far greater than my own.
However, surgery is no cure and having seen specialists on two continents I'm quite experienced (though clearly no expert). Sarah, you may want to consider consulting Andrew Prentice at Cambridge ([removed]) though other specialists in the UK include the Centre for Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain in Surrey ([removed]) or Adam Magos in London ([removed]) These are three of those I've seen previously but be aware, depending on your severity any surgery can be very risky - three of mine totalled over twenty hours in the operating room....and that was just to remove endo lesions and scarring....
Not trying to scaremonger however - Tracy I certainly hope your surgery results in permanent relief and I've known of cases where this does happen (when pain does return it's considered to be low or mild as normal periods) so it's worth considering but get all the details first.

I have had 2 Laparoscopies already to remove Endo, and was still in pain about 6 weeks after the last one. So there trying this...

Not brilliant unfortunately; despite having had several surgeries the last one in 2004 to remove uterus and ovaries, pain returned in about 2011/12. I've also gained quite a bit of weight because the pain and mobility has meant I find it difficult to exercise. I've today written to the Oxegene study to see whether there's anything I've not done yet (unlikely but you never know!) which may help...!!
I did find Prostap helped some and if I remember correctly (I took it in 1994) symptoms alleviated for some time though I remember taking steroids the following year which caused catastrophic problems and I certainly would strongly advise abstaining (though they probably don't do that anymore)...!
Well, of course my situation isn't a one size fits all. But, my experience can educate and give people hope that it at least had worked for some. I'm well aware that there's no cure, doctors don't even know what causes it. I also know it typically will start growing back after about a year. But, hey, if I can have surgery instead of becoming dependent on narcotic pain meds, then that's the better option for me.
Silver lining to my situation is, after spending $20,000 to have my one remaining fallopian tube repaired so that I may have kids again, in the surgery the doctor found my tube had scarred closed. If I didn't have all that pain, I wouldn't have known. :-D
I had 6 months worth of prostap 6 injections in total unfortunately they didnt work for me. The only side effect i had was hot flushes but my consultant said this was normal as prostap puts you through the menopause but once you stop having the injections it then stops
