I have been told by no fewer than three orthopedic surgeon that I need a TKR in the next few months/years!
Will wearing one of the super new knee braces available now delay the need for this surgery, or is it simply a case of each person's volume of activity and the stage at which the knee is already at?
I am still very active and note that any break from my activity, is replaced by a stiffening of the guilty knee and general pain in that area.
Grateful any tips on management beyond the surgeons blank call for TKR.
Hi. wearing my knee brace seemed to give me 1 more year to wait on the inevitable, total knee replacement , I knew was coming. I'm a night manager at a factory 12 hour shifts, so there was a lot of walking, but after they gave me the brace I felt pretty good for at least 9 months
Hi Donna, many thanks for your note on this. I am intrigued to hear why only 9 months! What happened at the 9 month point that was significant enough to change the usefulness of the brace?
The brace seem to help, which made me very happy at the time.
But, at about 8 or 9 months oh, the pain was getting a lot worse again mostly at work, but I'm thinking that someone who does not work a 12-hour shift, mostly walking on cement floors. Might be able to hold off a little longer to have surgery, by wearing a brace.
Dear Donna, Many thanks and wishing you well in your full recovery.
Hold off as long as you can. It's been 11 weeks and I want my old knee back. I'm amazed at the things that I can no longer do. Even walking down stairs is one step, one foot at a time.
