Wine!

I'm off blood thinners since July 26th, on very little meds ie occasional paracetamol but twice recently I had one glass of red wine (fairly big glass) and had a hangover. Is this due to the blood still being thin or just so many weeks pre and post op without it. I also still bruise easily. It's happy day when that is all I have to complain about. If I had smiley faces I'd have loads on.

rolleyes   Ooooo attractac (wth is your real name???) - me too !!  I think, in my case, it is the medication ...

I used to love a good martini, or just vodka on the rocks - I am a hard liqour fan but started to drink wine - and now my body doesn't like that either ...right now it is not worth this hang-over feeling ...

so water it is, or tea or coffee ... so  sad ... I know right, if this our worst problem, we are good to go ... but still -

could be that you still have blood thinners in your blood, i personally would wait a little bit longer

I found the same when I had a wine or two. I think it's because I hadn't had one in a while.I'm also finding that I can't drink as much as I could before (sound like a right alcoholic now!!) anyway.....just keep trying, all part of my necessary rehabilitation πŸ‘

So funny that this issue comes up ... and that, my friends , is why I love you all so mucheek

Real name Geraldine but someone had used my nickname on the forum so vouched for second name. The c at the end was accidental as I very often as you may have noticed hit a c for a space. Going to put the wine on hold for a while.

Hanging upside down like you would give me a hangover. Might try an occasional beer. Used to take 3 wines to cause hangover.

Think you could be right Marilyn. It's only 2 weeks past thinners so blood maynotbe back to normal.

I switched to cider ages ago as wine didn't mix with pain meds for me.

We had friends around for dinner last night and I had a few bottles of elderflower cider. No after effects at all as it doesnt have those nasty additives. I am a cider convert!

i cant really drink any alcohol as i am high dosage of diabetic tablets, if i do have a drink i have to make sure i have something starchy as well

The first night I got home I had a very large Spanish brandy & soda (or 2).  Didn't seem to do any harm at all (or, if it did, I was too happy to notice...).

Hi

didnt have a drink when I first got home felt too crap. I am now drinking wine again and glad to say have no problems  thank goodness as I find it ends my day very well!!

cheers everyone and well doneπŸ·πŸ·πŸ·πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„

Had a glass wine the day I got home as well and have been having one regularly since. Mind you though, regularly for me constitutes one, maaaybe two glasses a week.

When I've really overdone it (like the weekend with the garden and planting trees) though, I get myself a single shot of scotch. And then I sleep like a baby.. Unfortunately for my wife a noisy one, but yay ear plugs to that 😁

Lucky you but at your size a few glasses of wine woulnt even fizz on you. Have you tried Powers or Bush. Lovely dubley.

I suppose if one can't afford or get a good West Coast Highland single malt...razz

I think some of it is because if we've been off the sauce for some time then we're not used to it.... I admit to sometimes feeling the affects a little more readily than I did in the past, but I went to the Test match at Trent Bridge on Friday and several pints of cider and lager didn't seem to do me any harm!   In fact the whole thing was very jolly!   (Sorry Georgie that the Aussies were so rubbish wink wink

Excellent! We opened a bottle of cava when I took the rising seat off our toilet. You've just got to mark those landmarks.

yeah had to drown my sorrows for sure....my excuse anyway!!

I enjoyed a nice bottle of ref to myself last night!! Felt a little tipsy when I went to bed, but no hangover, my last blood thinners was 21july xx

I too found myself not wanting the customary glass of wine at first, just drinking plenty of water to flush out any medication. But once off the blood thinners, red wine, apart from soothing the soul, has also turned out to be the best pain killer ever! Yes, most wines do have some questionable additives (unless you can afford the ones that haven't). However, at the end of the day when your muscles and all other organs are exhausted from just trying to get better, a little bit of alcohol can do wonders.

I hasten to add this will not apply to everyone but as wine is the subject of this discussion, I thought I'd add my little piece. Each person is different, so listen to your body and enjoy the wine when it's the right time. Only you will know when that right time is.

Cheers,

Alison 🍷
