Hi Vanessa, I'm 6 weeks post op, and am doing really well.
I was in Hosp for 5 nights, and the next 5 nights in bed at home, sleeping and resting, the only time I got up was for the loo and my physio.
You really need to give in, give up and rest lots and lots, I was really tired up to 4 weeks.
Look after yourself.
Veronica
Thank you veronica I was only in hospital 2 days pretty quick x I'm going to take your advice bed rest for a while :-) when does the pain and stiffness start easing up? Xx glad you are doing so well :-) well done xx
I Found doing something one day then resting the next, helps, try and get plenty of rest during the day, try get your visitors to give you time to rest as the least little thing at the moment is exhausting so take it easy ok.
Thank you sue yes even going to the loo I have to muster up all my strength lol just want to feel a bit stronger any idea when that starts to kick in xx
Hi Vanessa - 4 days post op is very early days - take it steady. I'm just over 2 weeks post op and am finally beginning to feel more "with it" and a bit less tired. But everything is still quite an effort. I'm not keen on taking any tablets generally and I stopped the pain meds after a week - but now I've gone back to them as I was getting a lot of pain in my shins, keeping me awake at night. So you should take the meds and rest up!
Hi
Everyone is different, but I found the first week tough second week better and there after gradual improvement. The hardest thing l found was that you don't see your own progress as it changes by small degrees, but when I think back to week one and where I'm at now at 9 weeks it seems almost impossible. So you will get there, just take your time, keep up physio, rest when you need too.
Good luck
Alan
Get the first week over hun, its surprising its creeps up on you, you wake up one day and feel like a zillion times better, your first week you go through so much, you are tired emotional not sure what day of the week it is, again your emotions will be all over the place for the first 2-3 weeks, honest every week is better so stick with it, its a long tunnel but the light at the end gets nearer every day. Xx
You are very earlyin the healing process - you should expect to feel weak and exhausted in the first 2 weeks.
Your body needs rest - and plenty of it.
Best wishes
Graham 🚀🚀🚀💃
Thank you graham xxxx hope all goes well with you xx
Vanessa, after 12-14 days, I was a new woman, stopped pain killers, walking outside and joining in the fun of life, not long now for you, the more you rest, the better your recovery will be.
Have a lovely peaceful Christmas. X
Oh I can't wait :-) thank you xx
My question is how much physio are 6 wk post hippies doing
At 4 weeks i was doing sideways walk, staggered squats, one legged squats, dips & balancing on one leg.
At 6 weeks I added exercise bike, step ups, sranding from sitting without using arms, marching on the spot, leg lifts, wobble board (balancing on a wobbly board).

Apart from hospital visitors who did not expect anything from me, I had a friend over on day 8 I think it was - and when she left I actually felt so drained (ill) I had to go to bed. It took an hour or two for the terrible feeling to slowly ease. I stayed in bed for the rest of the night. I decided there and then no more visitors until I felt stronger. It is Christmas so difficult - either limit the visit to 20 mins enough time for a mince pie and a small glass of wine, or leave it until after Christmas when you will be feeling much better (which you will) and brighter. I am not sure why the company of others takes it out of you quite so much, but it was the same for me. It takes too much energy which is needed desperately for your recovery. You will feel better in a few days. Nurses often say you should never visit a patient for longer than half an hour, how true that is! I hope you feel better in the morning.
Vanessa at 4 days post op I was only leaving hospital & straight home to bed. After 1st 2 weeks u will feel a huge difference once u don't push yourself too hard. I found sleeping quite hard on my back but stuck with it until I got the ok from dr to side sleep. If ur only sleeping a few hours at a time ur bound to be tired & weak. Keep doing ur physio exercises as they help strengthen ur op side & a short walk outdoors if ur up to it will give u a lift & help with ur confidence. I went out for a meal locally with hubby 3 days after I left hospital but I had cabin fever so made myself go. Don't push yourself too hard. I'm 11 weeks post op & still find some days I overdo it & pay the consequences afterwards. I'm booked for my other hip in 6 weeks & can't wait to be painfree on the other side. Wishing u a happy, healthy hippie Christmas & new year x
For most people from 10 days onwards. Two weeks seems to be the consensus, before then you need plenty of bed rest, lots of fluids abd smoothies for building back your nourishment, moving your legs (foot pumps) for circulation on the bed. Prioritising your health now will ensure you feel stronger much faster. We all have to work out where our limits are, in my case I decided to gently recover, not forcing anything and leaving my body to decide when it is ready and when it needs a rest. You are very early days still - and have been through a lot. It does get better every day,
Dear Vanessa - simple answer, YES. Have a rest, as much as you need, just listen to you body, if it is telling you to rest, DO IT. yes Mum she says.
Your body is using ALL ITS available ENERGY re-building muscles, and bone, let alone the marrow (makes your oxgyen carrying red blood cells) that the surgery has taken away from you. Happy Xmas, onlygetting better from here on Love Lyn (mum)
Ok had 4 lots of physio in 6 weeks at the hospital. I do leg lifts, knee bends to 80' angle. Hip movements, strenthening my core muscles, stretching. Walking up and down flights of stairs. Pelvic excersises.
Vanessa, please remember you have had a major operation. Of course you are still tired. Just take your time and be gentle on yourself.
