What are people's experiences of coming off citalopram? I am on my last pill of it today (10mg) and I withdrew quite quickly - doctor advised me to cut down from 40 to zero in 2 weeks, and it's taken me about this length of time.
I didnt experience really bad symptoms but I did get:
*Mild upset stomach
*Brain zaps frome time to time - some days worse than others
*Slight increase in anxiety
*Some lightheadedness
*More prone to getting upset and feeling tearful.
Tomorrow I will start sertraline :-/
Sertraline i never heard of that, I take citalopram too, i can't sleep at night from it, the other one i have tried is remeron also called some other name. mitraplalam or something like that.
Hi Jane i came of 10mg citalopram earlier this year after been on it for 5 months i didnt really notice anything straight away it was quite smooth due to the low amount. I was ok for a few months but then started going downhill so from last week ive actually gone back on to 10mg. The best the thing i can advise is to monitor the situation i should have gone back on it earlier but thought i would just feel better when i finished my job feeling it was due to stress. I'm now going to try it for 12 months to see if i just need the small amount for a longer period of time.
Hi Mark
Do you think that the recent bad episode is due to not taking them for a few months? What did you doc say? I used to be on 60mg but had to cut to 40mg as apparently 60mg could cause heart problems in some rare cases. I hope you find going back on the 10mg helps!
I came off it cold turkey and was fine (some popel arent though). I had been on 20mg for 8 months. A little bit of vertigo but nothing debilitating - not unpleasant anyway. I was expecting all sorts of bad effects given the storied Ive read, but didnt have any. I just had one day when I wanted to burst into tears but thats it. The difference is that when I came off them, everything around me was good. I was i good place in life. - and I think this makes all the difference!!
My doctor mentioned that people can relapse this can be caused by stress and worry which i think contributed to me feeling low as now an not working dont have really much stress. But I definetly feel better been back on the tablets and so much more productive. I suppose I will see how I feel over the next few months and when I start a new job how am feeling.
