withdrawal?

i stopped prozac around 8 weeks ago after taking it for 20 years for ocd. i reduced it over a month which was probably too fast (i was on 40mg). things were not to bad to start with but now i'm in a lot of pain and have terrible mood swings. I put it all down to stopping amlodipine for my blood pressure 3 weeks ago but now i'm wondering if it's delayed withdrawal to the prozac.

my joints hurt like hell, especially in the evening and the night to the point where i have difficulty getting out of bed. my knees in particular feel as if they're really hot and swollen even though they aren't. my right shoulder feels as if i've done too much excercise. another problem i have is eating - i'm craving carbs like you wouldn't believe - crisps, potatoes, pastry etc and i've put on a stone in the last couple of weeks.

i feel very low a lot of the time and i'm getting in a rage about the slightest thing. i can't tolerate people around me. i'm also very very clumsy and have broken no end of things around the house. i don't seem to know where my body is in space if that makes any sense and keep knocking things off the counter or whatever.

does anyone else recognise these as prozac withdrawal or could it be the blood pressure meds after all?

That is way way to quick to come off medication you have been on for 20 years! You need to seek proper medical advice on weaning off very very slowly.

Agree with lookingonwards.  I took this meds for 16 years and spent a year coming off by 5mg each lowered dose.  That way I had no withdrawal.

I understand about the rage thing - the meds help calm and soothe you so it can feel different when you're off.

Some people reinstate a small amount of meds to help with withdrawal, but you should see your doctor for this.  I now take 5-HTP which is a natural SSRI and bought over the counter - this could help too but again do speak to your doctor before even trying this especially as you've come off meds recently and are suffering.
