Last year I had a breakdown and was off work for 3 months. My Dr increased my Citalapram from 20 mgs to 30mgs. A year later my circumstances have changed so I am trying to decrease from 30mg back to 20mg, I have alternated days taking 30 one day and 20 the next for a week now, and I feel awful. Wooly headed, confused, dizzy and feeling fluish. Anyone else done this? How did you feel and how long did it last? Thanks Jack
Yes I did, I did it over a 6 month period... from 20mg to zero.. each week I felt new symptoms.. it's normal what you are feeling... you will find it will keep changing.. but all I will say is, do it so so so so so slowly!
It took me 6 months, after being on citalopram for 7 years.. and I have ended up taking them again, because the withdrawels were awful! It turns out that because I was taking them for so long I really should of weened off over a longer length of time, such as a year.
Take it slowly, don't rush what ever you do.
But yes there is some weird symptoms as you ween off, I felt drunk, dizzy, chest pain the lust is endless x
you could try taking 25mg each day instead perhaps, for 2-4 weeks, and then go down to 20mg
Hi Jack, I am now totally clean from citalipram, having been on 40 mg for nearly 3 years . Its taken 9 months to get to here, a very slow process as I couldn't afford to fall apart or take time off work as we own a luxury lodge and work 24/7.
I started by dropping 2.5 mg for about a month, that was my worst drop on day 2 of the drop I felt I had been hit by a truck and could feel my whole body shaking and feeling just blargh, this lasted a day or so and the rest of the month I felt sorta seedy with the very odd head spin, nothing to wrote home about. I continued to do this till I was at 20 mg and then slowed again for a while to let it all jell in my body then started again. Sometimes I could go a bit faster sometimes a lot slower I just listened to my body and went with it. I also sate as healthy as possible and got as much sun and exercise as I could fit it, sun is great for feeling good. I also take high concentration fish oil and magnesium.
?When I got down to the last 5 mg it was getting more and more difficult to split and the dose wasnt really consistent and I felt a tad woozy, so I read where a woman crushed her tabs and diluted in water, so I did this 5mg pill to 5 mls water and took that for a few weeks till I felt good then I stopped!!! That was over 2 weeks ago and Ive had no side effects at all, thank god.
The best thing is to take it slow and listen to your body, because no matter what anyone says these pills are addictive and your poor old body has to adapt to being without them.
Good luck it can be done have faith you will get thru to the other side
