Hi guys ive been on cit for a few days now and my thoughts are so odd. I dont know if im coming or going im not sleeping well and then when i wake up i just feel blank. Before taking them i was just generally anxious about everyday things and alittle worried it was something serious like Schizophrenia. But since taking cit ive been convinced i have it looking up symptoms every five minutes then letting them play on my head . I havent been in work for a few months and i dont think thats helping. Has anyone else got worrys like this thanks gor any help and advice
Citalopram is an anti-depressant, not an anti-psychotic. If you have only been on citalopram for a few days, it is quite usual for peeps to experience side effects like you mention. Your body will adjust & if not, they will change it to something else. What the professionals usually say is to bear with it up to 1- 2 wks. If no better or side effects worsen, then stop. All the SSRI's can cause increased anxiety initially & strange feelings. This certainly does not mean that you have schizophrenia. You do not say if you are taking any other medication or titrating off a different anti-depressant? Try not to ruminate on things and most definetly STOP researching "symptoms". Many of us manage to convince ourselves that we have various illnesses after reading things on the internet. We are all a "mixed bag" of symptoms so don't give them a chance to play in your head.
I am very sure everthing will be alright.
Be patient and be positive.
It is absolutely normal what you are feeling...I too was off for 5 weeks, and I just returned to work yesterday.
first 3 weeks for me were the worst...side effects like nausea, fatigue etc, and everything else.
but stick with it....I promis you it will get better. You are only at the beginning. There will be ups and downs, I've had them and still do.
but it does get better...
