Went to see Billy Connolly in London last night. Managed taxis, trains, tube fine. According to my step counter I walked 3miles!
It wasn't easy, but not as difficult as I feared. Only a week ago I was wondering whether I would be able to go at all. (5weeks post op tomorrow).
Around the housei have been using just one crutch or stick, depending on how tired I feel. I took both crutches with me last night though for stability.
I was out of the house from 5pm and got home around midnight. Longest I been out for months! On the way home I did feel exhausted, had to really push myself to walk, but I did it. Aches n pains of course, but a couple of paracetamol sorted that! The worst was in fact my hands from the crutches. This morning after EIGHT HOURS SLEEP!!!!! I just feel it in my shoulders.
So proud of myself, I hope this helps others to see how quickly we can begin to resume our lives after this procedure.
Some tips: Bring a cushion for the theatre. Sit near an aisle if possible. Wear gloves so your hands get less sore on crutches, and stay warm.
For travel, many stations now have lifts to platforms. I planned my route carefully, but then got on wrong tube train!!! Not a problem normally, just a change 3 stops down the line, but baker street was all stairs!!! I did them slowly lol.
People in the main were kind, considerate and helpful. I may take crutches every time I travel in London from now on 😉
Such an inspirational post, I am really pleased you got to go & enjoyed your evening out.
I had my op the same day as you and have woken up this morning a bit deflated, having read your post I am now feeling motivated to get my butt out of bed & go for a nice walk, for once it's not raining.
That is very welcome news, and on the London tube system, great going! Hoping to get back to London post op. Want to see and photograph the Albert Bridge at night, it's spectacular!
You will be you up on the stage dancing Gertie next time singing we rule the world!!!! Nothing like that explosion of inner joy being able to do these things finally - or even just the scent of fresh outdoor air
