Hello everyone
I have been offered citalopram for mild depression and anxiety attacks, I am reluctant to take them because of the initial side effects and I have to work after already being signed off for a month.
I have now decided to go and get them but just wondered if anyone has had any experiences of going to work on them during the first couple of weeks. The doctor says she normally advises people to stay off but I can't really with the threat of redundancies.
I would be grateful for any advice
best wishes

I'm on day 8 and been fine, been in work all through and had no problems with side effects.
Hi - I'm on day 7 and have been at work this week, I have been quite clumsy, knocked over 2 glasses of water on my desk and yawning a lot but mostly fine - apart from the first day back at work I felt a bit paranoid and difficult to concentrate, but the following day I worked late as I was able to concentrate a bit better. Think no one noticed much about my clumsyness or yawning as I'm usually knackered anyway - baby doesn't sleep! :D
Hi Marie I was prescribed cit a month ago (10mgs) but after reading the side effects on the net decided not to take them straight away. I was petrified of taking them because I had to work over the xmas period and couldn't afford to take time off if they made me ill. I've now been taking them for 7 days and working at the same time and as yet have had no side effects apart from banging headaches, these I can cope with as I'm used to them. I have felt slightly more relaxed and happier this week and I do put it down to the pills, I also take my pill before bed initially because I thought if the side effects were too bad I would sleep them off. Hope this helps you and I would definitely give them a go.
Good luck

Hi,
I am at week 5 now and for the first few days took 20mg in the morning with breakfast and went to work all day. I found that I felt a bit \"spaced out\" until about lunchtime but was OK after that. I did change to taking them at about 6pm with dinner, so that I would hopefully feel brighter by the morning and think this works best for me.
Hope this helps a bit.
Good luck!
Thank you so much everyone for your messages, they have helped alot. I am seeing the doctor tuesday morning so I will definitely go for it as today all I want to do is cry and hide way but I am not sure why, this is not the way I want to be so I will give the tablets a go.
I hope you are all ok, it is good to have support and share experiences
best wishes

Hi,
Just thought i would give you my in-put as i have been on citalopram 20mg for 6 months now due to severe depression and anxiety after my marriage broke down.
I can honestly say you really need to give Citalopram a good 2 weeks to really get into your system and start to make u fee better, but once you do its fantastic.
From feeling so down with no motivation what so ever and being snappy, irrational etc etc i can honestly say i feel so much better and this medication has really worked for me.
With regards to working, i have had no problems working on this medication, and i work in hospital wards, so i have to keep my wits about me at all times.
Good luck and i hope it helps you as it has me :D
