Hi all, this all started a couple of months ago. I woke up having terrible chest pains and after they didn't go away, I went to an urgent care connected to a hospital to see what was up. After saying the phrase "chest pain" to the nurse at the front desk, it was less than two minutes before I was called back. I was convinced I was having a heart attack. After and ECG and chest x-ray, that was ruled out thankfully, and my chest pain was attributed to hurting a muscle in my chest from not having the proper form when doing certain workouts at the gym. I was sent home with a muscle relaxant and a low-dose anxiety medication because I had a breakdown in the room. Then, two and a half weeks ago I was in bed and laid on my left side, on my computer when I noticed my heartbeat. I rolled over and still felt it. I wasn't anxious at the time and usually only feel my heartbeat when I'm nervous. So I went to my GP and had another ECG and blood work done, only to have everything come out fine. She didn't want to do another X-ray because it had not even been 60 days since my last one, and said it's easier to notice a heartbeat in a young thin female and it's not abnormal, but since then, I feel like I have to keep moving in order to not feel my heartbeat and it's all I can think about. If I'm sitting down, I need to either be tapping my fingers or shaking my leg or I'll rub my hand across the top of my chest. I don't know if you can still feel palpitations when your mind is focused on something else, but it's what I've come up with, and I know I need to stop somehow. I nearly had a panic attack yesterday. I keep coming up with things that are wrong with me in my head and the thought of dying at 25 of a heart attack scares me. Heart issues run in my family, so I try to work out often and eat/sleep well, but I'm still scared.

I have this too, especially at night or when I’m laying down in general. I even went on metoprolol for my heart rate being high caused by my anxiety. I’ve gotten several tests done on my heart and they all come back that I’m fine even though I constantly get chest pain that radiates to my back that often hurts when I breathe in. I’ve gone to doctors about it and all they say is its my anxiety and muscle pain even though I did nothing to aggravate the muscle. I’m constantly anxious about my heart and health issues happening to me to where everytime I can feel my heart pounding (not racing but pounding) I get very anxious. I can even see my heart beat move my breast when it pounds like that. I have a family history of heart disease too which adds to the fear for sure. Good luck and let me know if you ever find an answer, I’m still looking for mine too. Also I’m only 22 years old.
Hi S, At your age it would be very rare to have a heart issue, if your test results are coming back normal…if you are thin, your heartbeat can just be more noticeable and anxiety makes your heart rate increase and your blood pressure go up, making it more obvious still, then if you focus on it all the time…it will be constantly on your mind…if your heart is healthy, feeling it beat isn’t a problem but, your anxiety IS. Heart issues usually happen in people over 40 due to things like no exercise, obesity, poor diet, high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol…after years of these issues. You need to get your anxiety under control and learn some coping techniques for stress and to find ways to keep distracted by keeping busy doing healthy things. The level of anxiety you have, when it interferes with your normal life functions needs professional help, ask your DR or visit a counsellor, you can get your life back & keep your anxiety in check…BEST WISHES:wedding:![]()
