My mother (age 73) has a had a consistent cough for about 3 months. She coughs so much that it upsets her stomach and makes eating difficult. Around February of 2020, she quit smoking after doing so for 50 years. I knew she would have difficult time having smoked so long. Everything tasted differently and she had very little energy. Unfortunately, that never improved. She always seemed drained. I began to wonder if she’d contracted COVID. She had quite a bit of blood work done and had her bone marrow tested in case she had cancer. It’s now been a year and she’s under 100 lbs. Her cough is very painful for her. There does seem to be thick mucus when she coughs. When she does it, she can’t eat much because it hurts her stomach.
There are so many things going on here, smoking, COVID, that it’s been difficult to isolate what the problem could be. Doctor visits haven’t been much help. Any thoughts would be appreciated. It’s difficult to get her to go to the doctor because of the cost and thr fact she feels like not much us accomplished
