I was put on citalopram yesterday by my doctor and instructed to take 20mg every night. I was already having problems sleeping but last night was terrible. Today I feel sick and dizzy and I know the doctor said it would take time to start working but this feels bad. I never really get ill and have never suffered from depression before I am worried if I keep feeling this bad how it might effect the relationship I have with my 2 year old son. Any advice please??
I am on 20mg daily, but was told not to take it at night as it would keep me awake, may be worth giving your GP a call to check - although even taking it in the mornings I still find I'm not sleeping well. Good luck
Try to stick with it - I've been taking 20 mg daily for almost a week (in the mornings) and I think there is definately an improvement in my depression and anxiety. For the first couple of days I took with an anti sickness tablet which sorted out problem of nausea.
I have been on Citalopram for 7 months now. Like you in the early stages I had difficulty in sleeping - it lasted a couple of months but stick with it as after a couple of months things should start to settle down and your sleeping pattern will return to normal. Depression alone can make sleeping difficult as well, so as the tablets start to work you will feel better. For the last couple of months now I have felt much better than I have for a long time. Also try taking them in the morning - I started taking them at night but then switched to the morning - found this helped also. Stick with them and you'll feel better and start sleeping soon.
