Hey guys, I have a pretty big fear of als and I've been doing self test etc.i was just wondering if any of you has ever gotten tight muscles in just one limb. Mine is in my left leg, I keep streching but idk I keep having anxiety so it could just be a cycle, what do you guys think
Hi There,
I know how scary symptoms can feel. I had about 10 all at once when I was in my 20s and I thought for sure I had some horrible condition, including ALS. However, once again my anxiety pushed me to worst-case thinking scenario. All my test came out normal and everyone of my symptoms including tight muscles in my leg and yes just one leg. But I had numerous other symptoms. I've been through years of different weird symptoms but they are all related to anxiety and any symptoms from anxiety cannot hurt you! Try to remember that.
i'm going to assume you are young. ALS hits people approximately 50 years old and older. It's really unheard of in young people. There can be many reasons why you're one leg is tight. Sometimes our muscles can tighten up where they're not stretched well, other times we might use them in the way we didn't use our other leg. You may not even be aware of how you used it. Have you tried soaking it in some warm water in the tub? Maybe use some Epsom salts. Athletes get tight muscles all the time, it's very common. Give your leg some time to relax . these things work themselves out .
What is happening is that you're thinking negatively and that leads to fear and that ends up in panic sometimes if you let it continue.
do not go online and Google your symptoms because it's not going to pertain to your individual situation and you will just scare yourself for nothing. For example, someone has chest pain they immediately think they're having a heart attack when they have anxiety. However numerous other things can cause chest pain such as anxiety, gas, indigestion, even some back problems. The same with your symptom.
PLEASE don't do what I did which was waste over 20 years of my life worrying about every little feeling on my body. People get all kinds of aches and pains and soreness etc. 99 percent of which are nothing serious. I can't get any of those days back when I could've been enjoying my life.
what people do is overthink every little symptom they get. Of course, if something continues for a while just go get it checked out. Get regular yearly physical's and bloodwork and if that is OK then Focus on enjoying your life!
there are some great meditations on YouTube for anxiety. One is called detachment from overthinking and another is called clearing subconscious negativity. Many others to choose from but if you're struggling try these.
if it ever gets really bad with anxiety, speaking with the counselor is a great idea. It really helped me a lot to figure out why I was thinking the way I was.
you are going to be absolutely fine! Enjoy your life because it goes by fast, do things you enjoy and try not to overthink things in life. 😃❤️
Wow. What a great reply. Tavoh, you're young. ALS is unheard of at your age. This is anxiety playing on your mind.
Thank you very very much, I'm 18 by the way and idk I've just had bad anxiety since a kid. I'll try to do what you advised but you know how it is. Thank you again
Thank you for warning others who sadly, suffer from anxiety. I'm 69 yrs old and I was actually born with anxiety. I had symptoms of aches and pains my entire life. Now, I'm old and I really do have aches and pains. Please don't waste your life thinking you are dying with every symptom. I thought I was dying for over 50 yrs now...live life because one day you will be old and wish you had spent more time out of bed wit symptoms. God bless!!
