Would It Be Worth The Risk ?

I have been offered surgery on my bowel because of severe diverticulitis

but because I also suffer with Interstitial Cystitis the consultant can't

say if it will cure my pain . I could have the operation and still have this

terrible bladder pain. They can't be sure where the pain is coming from.

If you were in this position what would you do?

I have only had pain when I had a flare. No pain in between.

Hi Linda,I've been diagnosed with Diverticula Disease and i have frequently got very loose bowels especially in the morning .I'm also on medication for Overactive  bladder and I'm sure one affects the other.The more bowel movements I have the more I need to pee.

I am in pain all the time and go from diarrhoea to constipation. I think if it was me I would make sure I really wanted it before I made such a dramatic decision. Sorry I am not very helpful

Personally. It would depend on my level of pain. If you are in pain ALL the time it may be something to consider. Having said that. I don't know much about cystitis. I know that I used to get repeated UTI's and mine seemed to be because of my bladder prolapse. Did you go to see a gynecologist to rule that out?

My pain is below my navel, low down, in the centre, in

my bladder area. Interstitial cystitis is not bacterial. .

The pain is like having broken glass in side you.

The pain is so bad I have been hospitalised with it 16 times.

My dilemma is it's not certain if I'm suffering from DD or IC pain. So hard to know what to do when the consultant isn't sure

if surgery would help me.

Personally I think your pain is not divertular pain. My pain usually starts on left side but now does radiate over abdomen . Seems more like urinary issue. Do antibiotics help?

Antibiotics don't help in the majority of cases.

Odd times that they have helped it's only been for about a day

and then the pain is back with a vengeance.

Even oramorph doesn't help the pain, just knocks me out

so I get a little sleep.

Did they do a CT scan when in hospital?  That would show the diverticulitis.

So sorry to hear of your suffering.  I don't know anything about cystitis.  Are you in a position where you could seek further medical advice from a urologist?

Have you seen a urologist? If not I think it's time. Find a reputable one. And make sure you like him or her. If you don't go to another. Prayers.

I see a top urologist that specialises in painful bladder syndrome. I have had bladder instills but they didn't help.

A cystoscopy confirmed I have painful bladder syndrome.

I have had quite a few CT scans , they confirmed diverticulitis

and the sigmoidoscopy I recently had saw that it's gotten worse.

I'm already seeing a urologist.

Are you in UK or US they seam to do things differently in the U.K.

Well since you have that confirmed. I'm guessing you saw a Gastrointestinal doctor. The pain you describe is different than the pain I have experienced. Mine is like someone punched me in my stomach.
