Hello all, I've been wondering about a discoloration/rash looking thing on my face and would like some opinions if not too much trouble. A few months ago I got a red discoloration around my eyes and around the bottom part of my nose above my mouth. I put antibiotic cream on the rash but it didn't go away. I plan on visiting a dermatologist soon but in the meantime am worried because it's there all the time but comes and goes (the eye part went away).
Any clues on what it is? I think it's some kind of infection maybe and it is symmetrical on my face.

I have dermatomyositis and This rash that you have does not sound like a rash that is from dermatomyositis. I have the butterfly rash and it actually does look like a butterfly that covers your nose and cheek area. My face does get itchy at times. I think you may be right about an infection or maybe it could be an allergy of some type. My best advise is to go to a skin speciallist They will be able to treat you with the right meds.
Since this is so close to your eye, you definitely need to go to the dermotologist. Anything you put on that could travel into the eye very easily.
One thing you could try that may take the red out, is a warm tea bag. Tea bags have tannic acid that is somewhat anti-infective and is very soothing to place on the eyes or may be used to clear up red spots from mild acne. But, definitely see the doc!!
