Would really appreciate some help

Hello all,

Just joined. I have been diagnosed with depression and anxiety although im having a hard time believing/accepting it is with what im going thru. Ive read 100's and 100's of posts with people thinking theyre "the only one" but I just really do feel like that! Ill tell you what happened and has been happening, id appreciate if you had time to read.

4 and a half months ago someone said something to me that hit a nerve about something from the past thats long been and gone and since then ive been on a downhill spiral. Was literally the moment it was said I went into a massive panic, heart pounding with pain a sharp in head. I couldnt sleep for a month, lay awake for hours sweating. The pain in my head was as tho my brain had been dislodged and twisted around. Had horrible sensations down my arms, like a shiver feel but tearing down my arms. Huge and i mean HUGE crushing in my chest. Felt like someone was holding my heart in chest and pulling it down and squeezing it hard. Also felt like i was being strangled. In the first month i lost 3 stone thru not eating hardly anything. I hid myself away in bedroom. Not talking or seeing anyone.

So I went to doctors and he prescribed me propananol and citalopram. I didnt take to start as I was very against taking them. However after about another 3 weeks I became very desperate, suicidal thoughts were all I thought about. I started to take them and they didnt make any difference in 3 weeks or so, was changed to sertraline. Went to doctors one day with the pain and had an ECG and all came back ok. Then they also gave me mirtazapine to help me sleep which did help me sleep and gave me some appetite back

Another 3 weeks or so went by and i had a meeting with a cbt therapist, he could see how desperate i was and said he wasnt the right person for me yet so put onto a psychiatrist but they couldnt see me for about a month, but they got me in within a few days to see a duty nurse, I saw her and she cancelled my appointment with psychiatrist and put me onto a crisis time, they came out that afternoon to assess me, put me on daily contact and the next day i saw their doctor who asked me all sorts of questions and basically upped my mirtazapine and dropped the sertraline. I have seen them daily and a little less last couple of weeks. I have come out of myself in terms of seeing people but im in constant agony and really cant go on like this, my pain is getting horrendous, more so down the left hand side of my body, left side of brain pulses, left arm and leg aches and just doesnt feel right and the constant crushing and pulling at my heart. My heart pounds which is really uncomfortable. Ive also gone dizzy now and at times walk funny, some people have noticed, I walked into back of my van other day. They have sent off for me to have head and neck scanned just waiting for appointment. Gave me pregabalin to help with pain last week which as with everything else doesnt seem to be doing much. I tell people, including doctors what im going thru and they look at me like im mad...and i even know it sounds mad all these syptoms but they are very very real to me. Feels like ive fallen off a really high building and all my insides have been smashed against my skeleton and are now all dislodged.

Im really not right at all...just feels like something is really broken, besides all the physical symptons i have had for well over 4 months, my thoughts are completely ruined, cant see a future in anything, things id rather not think about haunt me all day every day. I was a totally relaxed, calm, happy and positive person. I loved my life, and i mean LOVED my life...now everything has come crashing down around me and I cant see any kind of escape.

Im sorry for the essay, I really am in a sorry state but I just dont know what to do any more. Im convinced this cant be just anxiety and depression, its just too painful. I appreciate any kind of help you could maybe offer me. Really am struggling with people who havent been thru it telling me "youll be ok" "youll get thru it", unless youve been in this situation i guess you dont really know do you.

Its just so hard to believe its anxiety. I am completely different person, all my thoughts are horrible and it literally happened over night. My life is getting worse by day and im slowly loosing my family and the person who i was. 😔 People keep saying"oh I get down at times" ... This isn't like that. This is something that's destroying me and everything around me and I have no control over it.

Thank you.

People suffering from depression don't say "oh I get down at times" either. You've got a diagnosis and it seems your being treated very well, talk to those who are taking a lot of time and resource to help you, that's what they are there for, if you can't believe them then it's unlikely you'll believe a lot of strangers

Yes I know. I wasn't belittling the treatment im getting by any shape or form. I'm really thankful to them and I thank them each time I see someone. I'm just desperate to try get out of this. That's all.

Hi, it sounds like your going through the mill at the moment, I know how you feel and totally empathis with you, it's a horrible illness is depression and anxiety but like all illnesses they can be treated and you recover.

Its early days for you with the meds you have to give them time to work but generally after 6-8 weeks you should start to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Your getting the right treatment so just have a bit of faith just a small amount of faith will help.

From a practical point of view all the symptoms you are experiencing are more than likely down to the illness and they will go, try not to hide away from things and continue to do things you would normally do, this will help.

You will get better it's gonna take a bit of time but you will get well again.

Hi the physical symptoms are so worrying , I often think could I cope with them if the anxiety would go. the anxiety for me is as you described it , it ruins your life, you feel your head will drive you mad, obsessive thoughts and worrying, never want to do anything and worry what future you can have feeling like this, my heart races , head kills with tension and feels really scary. You have seen professionals and they have done all tests, you have to take reasurance it's mostly anxiety making everything worse, we always believe it's something worse or they have missed something, that's how this horrid thing works, glad you've read posts, please be reasured we do understand how this feels, hope you get lots more replies, this can get better, I know it's hard, people here just share how they cope, hope you can see the similarities to your problem and feel a bit more positive❤️

Thank you for reply. I've been on anti depressants now for over 3 months. 3 different ones. I'd of thought I'd feel a tiny better by now. I am doing more than I was so I guess something's happening. Just my thoughts and this pain is literally killing me.

No, before being fobbed off by doctors about anxiety have a Complete check of your health, your symptoms are real and may or MAY NOT caused only by anxiety. Of course your are bound to be depressed and anxious about your weird symptoms! Before being treated ONLY for anxiety you must rule out a biological cause or causes that all of a sudden have turned your life upside down!

Yes. Like I say I've had bloods and ecg. MRI next. In a way I hope it does show up something! And yes I know how crazy that sounds. Just want by life back so bad.

MRI of abdomen?

Head and neck as I went last week with bad dizziness and pain mostly down left hand side of body.

Awesome let us know how it goes!

Dear cantrainalltime

Can relate

In Feb this year

I overnight became

What can only be described

As feeling possessed with

Dear in my upper body and head

I think induced by

Negative thoughts and awful life events

Over long period of time

It became unbearable

Had to have medication

Which has reduced symtoms

Stay with medication

You are not going mad just

Very ill

But will recover !

Take each day

You will start to Recover

The brain is self healing

God bless and you are not alone

Chris

Yes I too feel the same although the only physical symptoms I have is tingling in the arms .... I have really bad anxiety attacks where I am just consumed with fear and feel like it's never going away ... For the past 6 weeks I have been in my bedroom I have to wait 3/4 months for counselling and after a bad attack this morning I have just begged my gp to urgently refer me to a psychiatrist as I don't know how much longer I can cope ... but don't know how long the wait will be ... I have been on sertraline for a few years 100mg  which was increased to 150 six weeks ago then today it's increased to 200 but I don't think it's working ??????? I am not the person I was up until 6 weeks ago and I now wonder if I will ever be like that again ?? It IS anxiety and depression but it sounds like a breakdown you've had as that is what mine has been labelled as but as I said I only have tingling you have worse symptoms... Things you have said ring true with me its destroying me too and I too feel I have no control its so frightening I sincerely hope you start to feel better soon and hope you keep posting on here ... Stay strong

Hi Chris after reading your post I hope you don't mind me asking but what medication do you take as mine needs to be changed and I'm curious to know what works for others ....... I too have attacts of horrendous fear which is controlling my life ... I wish you well ...
