Hi hope everyone is doing well , been for my 2 weeks post op check , hospital really happy with how the wound is coming on , some bleeding and open slightly but just added some butterfly stitches to it and another dressing , got hubby to take a in so I can actually see what it looks like, bruising has settled but my bum and leg are still very , very swollen 😔 doesn't even look like a leg lol
How long did the swelling take for other people to settle down?
I'm 16 days post opp. Hit a milestone a couple of days ago, my swelling went down enough for me to get my extra big knickers on! I had my dressing off today, it's holding together but I've been left with gauze just in case.
Hi Rachel, had RHR on 11/2 my wound was still weeping after they took staples out at week2 so they put butterfly on mine and by week 3 it had healed up fine.
Hi rachael! Swelling can take months to heal! Even now at 11 weeks I still have swelling and stiffness. But focusing on hydrotherapy and reflexology. It can take 6 months or more to completely recover! Take a day at a time. Listen to your body! Regards Amanda
Hi Rachel my wound was like that I had the dressing changed after two weeks and then again after another two weeks it took about a month to heal but okay now I put bio oil on it not long after that and now have a very neat scar
Hospital are pleased with it but was bleeding a bit and needed extra butterfly stitches , new dressing to keep it dry for the next few days , have a pic but don't know how to put pics on here lol
Hi, my wound was slightly open at one point when had stitches out, but they just put butterfly plasters on and I went back a few days later and all OK. I am now 6 weeks and no problems and swelling nearly gone xx
I had clips. they came out at two weeks and for me the wound was closed and had not bled since the hospital put a dressing on leaving at day 4. In that case I was lucky. I did have a whole lot of bruising that actually developed in intensity and I believe this is due to little vessels bleeding and blood working its way to the outer muscles I read this is quite common if you do not have a drain and can actually go down your leg. I am now 4 and a half weeks and there is still some bruising around the wound though it is fading a little and it is still sore and a bit swollen. It is numb in places. I occasionally get prickling pains around the wound. Sometimes it aches as well around it but i am doing some walking every day now.
I had one done 15 years ago that healed really quickly with no bruising or swelling. This time it is slower - so it shows every hip and op is different.
It sounds from your post that the hospital saw what it was like - nurses or doctor? I never had a 2 week check. If you are worried go back!
if the nurse at the hospital wasnt worried then you shouldnt either. its quite common for large incisions to be a little open in places especially if the surrounding flesh is very swollen. the swelling will go in its own sweet time. the only thing you can do to help is elevate your legs and move around regularly. it all comes together eventually.
