X-rays

Hi all, I've got my surgery on the 9th Feb but my X-rays are over a year old now. Does having new ones make a difference? does everyone get new X-rays before surgery?

The xray they used for my consult was atleast 4 years old ahaha

Hi Joanne, at the time of my pre op, my xray was over a year old. They organised it then and there to have a new one done as I was told the surgeon uses it to guage the length of the prosthetic. Hope this helps.

Dawn

4 years! Hopefully you will get another set soon Sarah.

Thanks Dawn, I had my pre-op on the 30th Dec and nobody said anything about X-rays, I wish I'd thought about it then.

Well im going for my pre op on the 9th so maybe then haha

Yes, I'm sure they will do you a new set after 4 years.

You're not alone in not thinking about it at the time of the pre op! It was the ward sister that mentioned it to me. I guess worse case scenario they could xray on the day if your surgeon is concerned about the age of the image.

All the best to you for the 9th. ☺

It seems prudent to obtain a fresh view of the situation, but then again, the surgeon will see first hand when he gets in there.  My surgeon was all about x-rays because it reveals helpful information before and after.

Sure wish you the best on the 9th and keep us posted!

Im not sure when though haha 😂

That's true, I wondered if they might X-ray on the morning of surgery. Thank you

Thank you Dawn

Hi Joanne

Its great you have a date for your op. It doesnt really matter that your xray is over a year old as you will soon be having a new hip, Xrays are generally used to determine how urgently you need surgery. You should have your next xray after your surgery before you leave hospital (UK).

Best of luck for the 9th!

That puts my mind at rest a bit. I thought I would need new ones to show changes. Thank you Linnet

I had an X-ray as part of the preadmittance assessment primarily to measure for the prothesis

Hi Joanne.

my surgery is Feb 3rd and my Xrays are 1 1/2 yrs old. I hooe it doesnt matter lol but i figured they might be xraying while we are in there.

Good luck to you as we becomes hippys together 😀

Karen

Hi Maggie. Do you mean your pre-op ?

Hi Karen. We're both the same then lol. Mine was meant to be on the 4th of Feb but got postponed because it was an audit day. Good luck to you for the 3rd, not long to wait now. Where are you having it done?

Yes, that's it. the hospital were I had the op does this as routine for all patients. Interestingly there is a display near the entrance to the orthopaedic ward of  some of the different kinds of prothesis in use
