Hi fellow Hippies!

Well I had my 2nd replacement done today and so far so good. I feel great, no nausea. They took my issues last time into account and changed their formula a bit. Still a spinal though. Pain is minimal but that could reflect the effects of good drugs! Even got up on the commode instead of the dreaded bed pan! Anyway here's hoping tomorrow goes as well.

Hey Fiona sounds like you're doing good ! I'm 23 days post op RTHR, going good. Glad you're feeling well enough to drop in and say hello! I remember they had me up and waking 2 hours out of surgery. Not very far or fast but moving mostly pain free. Wish you a speedy recovery, slow and steady, it takes a while. At 3 weeks just just getting around with one crutch most of the time. Feeling stronger every day. Dave 63380

Hi Fiona

Well done  to you. Yes the drugs do wonderful things. I am 12 days post op of my second hip rep  and so far so good. This one feels different and felt less traumatic in the wound area. Let me know if yours feels different when you get going. All the best Polly

Well done for using the commode -aren't bedpans simply dreadful!

Thanks Polly. I'll keep you posted. Day 2 and as soon as physio arrives I'm hoping to get walking. We'll see how that goes@

Actually I was born in Cheshire but we immigrated to Canada when I was very young. I live near Toronto Ontario. I had a lateral replacement which is something I never hear from people in the UK.

one thing that they make easy at least for me in the US is a cath for 24 hours so no worries that first day and night and with all the IV fluids, it is a savings, the bags of antibiodics alone would keep ya running.  Bedpan I would think would hurt ot get on.  wishing continued good health and movement xoxoxo Annette  huggss

I had one too for 24 hours. What a blessing. After ... I tried to use a 'deluxe feminine urinal' (a glorified bottle with a wide mouth and a handle that helped me through a major accident years ago). However, it wasn't easy for me to use this time as it was such a struggle to get vertical enough to use it effectively. And ... I may not have been iuas clear-thinking ...

I was 'swarmed by killer fruit flies'! Actually a figment of my over-anaesthetized brain that had me get out of bed on my own in the middle of the night, through our ward door and out to the nursing station looking for a nurse to disperse them! I think I may have looked/sounded just a wee bit maddddd. 😨 And no one could figure out how I got that far on my own 8 hours after surgery.

Amazing what one can manage to do when 'motivated'!

That would really help. I don't know why they don't do that here. I was totally frozen for a long time and couldn't feel a thing. I made them help me as I knew it had to be time. Could easily have been an accident!

I am in the US and had a lateral as well, I do not hear of many, but so far very pleased. Annette xo
