Yikes 47 and everything's going pear shaped !!

Hi ladies well after 8mths of reading all the posts I've finally plucked up the courage to join in! Takes a lot to get your head around the many changes the body starts to go through at 47 I'm starting to experience irregular periods, in jan of this year I got this awful burning sensation on my legs arms chest which freaked me out dr tested me for menopause which was in normal range then came the aches and pains tingly hands and feet insomnia had tests for thyroid RA B12 Vit D all normal had nerve tests done at hospital all normal dr suggested Anti depressants I decided to try self help invested in a physiotherapist who taught me realisation breathing techniques which I found really helped I also discovered magnesium bedtime spray. Low and behold I thestarted getting a sore throat dr prescribed omeprazole which didn't help, next was possible post nasal drip tried anti histamines and nasal spray no better, my boobs get sore for 2 weeks around ovulation some months then nothing other months. It's totally crazy feel like I'm losing my mind at times rolleyes

Hi Frankie, I'm also 47 and started with this last year had lots tests all came back normal, I myself in February started with a warm sensation in my throat, felt permanently sore, been to ent, at first said it was silent reflux, been on two different types of acid tablet, made no difference, just been back a couple of weeks ago and now he is saying Allergies, because if it was acid the tablets would of worked, my doctor thinks it's the peri, like you I get a hot sensation ion my chest, up to my ears, then the sore throat and hot tongue also, my next step will be a allergy test to see if it is that, I do know how you feel, it seems to be one illness after another with no answers xx

Hello. Just from point of view of someone that was thrown into menopause overnight from having ovaries removed 10 weeks ago (age 40) these symptoms are very similar to what I'm experiencing. Achy body, not sleeping well and what I can describe as being hot from inside out spreading around my chest and neck area the most. It could possibly be a drop in hormones as unless you knew what hormones were a while back there is no way to know if they have fallen but still within normal range. There are over the counter herbal remedies that may help but I can't take them so I'm afraid can't me much help on that side. I hope you find something to make you feel better 😊

Hi Sue, thanks for your reply glad I'm not alone in this I've always been so healthy never went to drs now I'm gracing my presence almost every month, I will have to go back as my throats no better and I even feel wheezy at times, prob be referred! I think if they could give us answers it would help relieve the mind you kinda think it's something terrible don't you. Have you tried any supplements to help with peri?

Ahh thank you Froggy for your reply. Gosh having to go through that must be tough, I didn't even think about the menopause at first it's when you share your experiences you come to realise your not alone in this rocky journey. I'm all for herbal remedies may even try acupuncture.😮

Yes, loads of problems going into menopause I would suggest you keep on with the breathing that your physiotherapist talked to you about.  Good, that there are some people out there who recognise that breathing helps.  Most health providers just suggest drugs!  Meditation is an absolute help, as when we are stressed we breathe shallowly which does not help, or even hold our breathe!  Try some you tube videos on meditation, there are loads, concentrate on the breathe, breathe out as much as you can and your body will naturally breathe in deeply, it is survival!  Yoga is a really good accessory to meditation, when you do yoga you breathe in adn out as you do the exercises and it is a natural form of meditation as all you are thinking about is the yoga.  It really, really helps with stress.  All the stuff that is happening is confusing and you need some sort of grounding, I found committing myself to doing yoga every day, even if just for 15 minutes helped me and the commitment made me feel better about myself as I was actively doing something, not just a victim.  Recently, I have had a muscle strain and have not been doing yoga so much, it has only just occured to me that that is the reason my hot flushes have suddenly increase, so doing this post has helped me too.  Good luck, hang in there, and help yourself by helping your body to relax.  We hold tension in the muscles which is another reason why yoga is so good.  Have a look at yin yoga, that is a really relaxing form of yoga which involves holding (mostly lying down poses, which makes it easier) for some time and breathing deeply.  This is the most relaxing thing to do before bed.  Have a go, enjoy your journey and breathe!  Lots of love xxx

Sue and frankieD, have you been tested for Helicobacter Pylori?  The presence of this bacteria in the stomach will give you same symptoms.  Very common but it is something that drs rarely think of.

Hi Sheryl

yes I had H Pylori last year, I had it 9 months before they decided to check me for it, I was at the A&E nearly every week in terrible pain with my stomach really bad avid, which I have never suffered from before. I have been re tested a month ago and it has gone. Frankie I was the same as you never went near the doctors was really fit, but now I think I'm making up for it. I have said the same if you know what your dealing with you can cope, it's the not knowing your mind goes into over drive, which then brings on the Anxiety, that's something else that came along with the Peri. I'm not on supplements Frankie because I eat very healthy and do excercise, they said I could try HRT but I want to see if I can get through it myself first xx

And some stupid drs treat every symptom individually with a different medication for each of them!!!  I can't believe the list of medications some menopausal women are on and nothing is working for them - Instead of prescribing oestrodiol oestrogen.  Don't be afraid of it.   I have been using it for 25 years.

Hi Sue,

Ii think I must of jinxed myself from my message last night as today my boobs are starting to feel sore and I'm guessing (don't know for sure as periods irratic) it's around mid cycle am I right in thinking that's high estrogen???? Drs won't offer me HRT as my last 2 blood tests show normal FSH levels which is so frustrating.  Not sure I would take it at this stage like you I'm relatively fit (well I thought I was lol)

Hi Froggy

thanks for the list I can prob tick best part of them...

Yes the breathing excercies definitely make a difference, I'm going to look up yoga classes now thanks for your advice. Great to know there's ladies out there who feel the same Cus you do sometimes feel your alone in this transition

Totally agree with you des wanted me on Anti Depressants because I was going back and girth with all my issues pains burning sensation insomnia which they gave me sleeping tablets  acid tablets anti histamines nasal spray it's all in the cupboard none of them worked!!!

Thanks. I can't wait for my 6 months to be up so I can start it 😀

Why do you have to wait 6 months?  I went straight on to HRT (implanted pellets back then - surgeon put it in when stitching me up).  I was 39 yrs old.

Another myth???

Endometriosis grows on estrogen so I have to wait 6 months to make sure if any minute deposits were left from hysterectomy and endo clearance have gone before I can go on it. It's been proven it reduces chances of it coming back considerably. 😊

Yes, endo same with me, that is why I was also given provera, with my oestrogen.  It does the same job.

I'm on fake hormone livial but not quite the same as actual hrt but is better than nothing 😊
