Young and new to diverticulitis

Hello,

I was first diagnosed with diverticulitis at the age of 25. My first flare up was quite traumatic- I had horrible pain that kept me up at night and I could feel piercing pain on my left side after attempting to eat. I was put on flagyl for about 2 weeks. The flagyl really seemed to clear the infection and the pain subsided within a day or two. Since then I have been trying to figure out a diet that works for me. Sometimes I find that probiotics or fiber supplements help but some times I'm not quite sure if it does help or what the proper combination may be. I have been able to keep a flare up like my first one at bay, but recently began feeling sensitivity and slight discomfort. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Hi,

I am still recovering from an attack on Feb. 1st.  I think I started back on normal food too quickly and had another attack or the first never cleared but I had 2 rounds of the standard antibiotics and a liquid diet and now have slowly reintroduced foods back in.  I have not brought a lot of fiber back in to my diet yet.  I know this sounds weird but one thing that has worked for me to eat is a Kellogs Poptart.  For some reason it sits well on my stomach.  A turkey sub half of a normal size has worked for me too.  I am not eating much at a time.  I ate half the sub at one sitting and had the other half the next day.  I had a little cheese and a tiny bit of lettuce, no tomato etc.on it.    I have had some green beans cooked very long and tender and a potato peeled and cooked in the green beans.  Also packaged fruit like pears and peaches .Try  those fruit lunch box cups of fruit.  I am investigation a low FODMAP diet as I have read that is good for preventing a diverticulitis attack.

Hope this helps.  Truly this is an adjustment for all of us in our daily life with food.
