I was scheduled for a bipolar TURP to clear my issues with retention (200ml) and subsequent frequency/urgency. I cancelled my surgery after some negative comments that I read, so if you have had a bioplar TURP I would like to know how it went for you - especially the post op experience. Were you able to go home the same day? How long did you experience side effects and down time? Did it solve your issues? The latest bipolar TURP uses a cutting loop then a plasma button to cauterize the bleeding so this is different than the old style TURP, and most patients do go home the same day.
Tom, I’ve been looking for a procedure as well. From what I’ve read, bipolar TURP is much better than the original TURP, as far as post op recovery, yet just as effective. However, if you are very concerned with retro ejaculation, this is not a good choice.
Forums like this tend to attract patients who have had problems with their procedures. In the main the best option is to find a Uro who is a specialist in a procedure rather than one who does several.
I’m looking at a button as well since my Rezum left me less than satisfied.
If it has the name TURP it’s Turp no matter how you cut it.
My uro does this and I was scheduled for one last month but I contracted a nasty cold so I rescheduled it. Differences from the older style TURP are the bipolar electrodes which allow saline as the irrigating fluid rather than glycine. The loop electrode is pretty much the same as what has always been used. The plasma button is used at the end to smooth the surface and cauterize any bleeding. My uro has the patient stay one night in the hospital and next day discharge, usually without a catheter. As previously posted, retro ejaculation is almost guaranteed. There have been several posts on this forum from people who have had successful and uneventful TURPs. Try the search function. Many that have had successful procedures generally do not visit the forum very often afterwards.

Has your urologist investigated (cystoscopy) to see what might be the issue? The reason I ask is that, after about 3 months, my flow suddenly slowed. I went back and he found that some tissue was partially blocking the flow. He said that it was rare, but occasionally it did happen. This second procedure was also done with the twilight anesthesia, and was again painless.
